Good day everyone! I bought a Vindicare Assassin and I plan on using him in most of my imperium list (currently DA Ravenwing). I just like the model.

I was curious to see how people use them / what you guys think is the most effective way? Ok, I know you stand back and shoot away, but what kind of priority do you give him? transport killer on first couple turn? Warlord hunter for extra VP? Special Weapon hunter? MC hunter maybe?

I just feel like I never get my 150pts back lol

You probably wont since he is T4 and often gets instant deathed. Priority matters on the mission. I have used him for killing special weapons etc which has helped from time to time. None of the assassins are really very effective these days. Well maybe the culuxes...

'Getting your points back' is not how you use him. He is a sniper, and the only sniper in the game that actually can be used like a real world sniper. Take the best targets of opportunity. If a Warlord is positioned badly, kill it. If a Special Weapon squad is threatening, kill the Special and run a tank through it with absolutely zero risk.

My best use has been with my old Eldar, killing Specials and then having a Vyper or Falcon mop up the rest of the squad. I always called it 'declawing the cat' because you remove the painful bits of the squad before they can get you. Then you stomp them into the dirt which is where the metaphor falls apart...

Depends who your fighting, against a lot of armies there won't be many targets worth a vindicare's attention but if he's lucky enough to snipe a warlord he'll have probably earned his keep.

He's a staple in every Guard list I write. I plop him somewhere in cover with good visibility to most of the board and wait for targets to appear. I don't plan on him taking out anything specific, just taking out something useful.

I would probably target vehicles in the early game, counting on him shaking or stunning them.

Mid to late game I'd target immediate threats: that flamer that's going to hit your infantry next turn, that sgt whose squad is threatening your flank, that walker about to charge your lines, etc.

I'd only target the warlord if it's late game and he's got 1 wound left or you need those VPs to win. Most warlords will still get a 4+ LOS and/or invulnerable saves.

I have been mostly disappointed with the vindicare, tbh.

Although i miss the old turbo penetrator rules, he still is good value.

If you run a techmarine, you can give the ruin you hide him in +1 to cover which gives him 2+ cover saves!
He also ignores cover now and even without 4d6 to pen, s10 ap2 with ignores cover makes dark eldar paper planes disappear ridiculously easy.

Unless your opponent has a 2w warlord with no invul, you really should be picking off tactical targets, not expensive ones.

Think about your banner of Devastation. 2+ to hit, and 2+ to wound = no more dakka banner!
Thats the kind of target the vindicare excels at removing

Personally I think because of the combo of ridiculously high ballistic skill and ignores cover and turbo penetrator, this guy's priority should be as a tank hunter.

With tanks, he also has the greatest chance of making his points back because a lucky hit will net you approx 150 points, while a "lucky hit" on a sarge or special weapons guy will bring about 20-30 points back.

That being said, if there are no tanks nearby, always go for the next immediate threat.

Yeah I got him in a small game yesterday against Ork (1k pts) and he did is job really well.

Picked up a trukk on 1st turn, then 2 nob with PK. Then he tried to snipe a weirdboy, but the other guy got the look out sir on 4+.

Then I forfeited because my vindicare was my last model standing. I tried to play full bike spam, but in a casual manner (not focusing all my fire on 1 target while dodging the rest of the army. Result: lots of death that could have been easily avoided.)
