Subject: New to Necrons; need some construction advice

After much contemplation, I've started collecting a Necron army. But it wasn't really that much contemplation, because Necrons are awesome.
So I picked up a couple battleforces, and discovered that the Warrior sprues were... not so awesome.
They are definitely some of the poorer GW sprues I've cut up; the parts that bother me the most are the heads. Seriously, what genius thought up the idea to put a massive runner into each of the Necron head's tiny, inwardly-curved cheeks? Every other head from every other sprue I've handled--including other Necron units--has been attached via the top or bottom or some other large, open, flat surface. Cleaning up these heads has proven to be a nightmare, and of my 40 Necron Warriors, not one has nice, symmetrical cheeks. I could put up with the chest-pieces that are impossible to align and the gun-arms that require an engineering degree to properly set up together (until one re-discovers plastic glue, anyway), and even the fact that they, for some reason, can only look straight up at the sky--if only I didn't have to deal with the bloody heads.
Ranting aside, have any of you Necron veterans, you who have collectively constructed legions upon legions of these Warriors, come across any helpful hints or tricks to cutting and trimming the heads?
I think it's time they got a new mould, to be honest.

I don't have any tips or tricks for you, just a suggestion/opinion, and that is to set your necrons up like nr. 1.
I made the mistake to do almost all my necrons like nr 2, and they look awkward as fudge standing upright like that, not menacing at all.

Agreed. I attempted to assemble my first squad upright and it simply looked awkward. All the heads were at the wrong angle so they were all looking up at me as if asking "what do we do now?" Assemble them hunched over and it makes all the difference in the pose.
As far as the difficulty of assembly, the only issues I ever had were getting everything angled right when assembling the arms and gun. Really wish I had a third hand on those. Of course, mine are from when the kit first came out so I imagine the fit was a lot better back then, considering how old it is.

++ Heed my words for I am the Herald and we are the footsteps of doom. Interlopers, do we name you. Defilers of our
sacred earth. We have awoken to your primative species and will not tolerate your presence. Ours is the way of logic,
of cold hard reason: your irrationality, your human disease has no place in the necrontyr. Flesh is weak.
Surrender to the machine incarnate. Surrender and die. ++

Indeed. I vary their level of "hunchedness" somewhat every now and then. A couple guys are looking more upward, and a few are looking a bit at the ground. That and varying the angle of their torsos and guns gives them a fair bit of variety, but their design is still quite bothersome.
Perhaps ditching the Warriors and having an army full of Immortals in Night Scythes would be the way to go. Immortals are actually fun to build.
