The Canoptek [blank] is a large maintenance drone usually attached to spacecraft and orbital platforms. Capable of independent flight and fitted with the same micro-scale Inertialess Drive as the Night and Doom Scythe fighter craft, when deployed into the atmosphere these horrific machines double as nimble hunter-killers, seeking out specific prey to dispose of with their twin Exile Beams or to glass with their massive Tesla Arc. Some tomb complexes also hangar a small fleet of [blanks] to supplement their defence forces instead of the more standard sentry pylons.

A Canoptek [blank] is a Heavy Support choice for a Necron army. 260 points.

[Blank] WS:4 BS:4 S:7 T:7 W:5 I:2 A:4 Ld:10 Sv: 3+

Unit Type: Flying Monstrous Creature

Unit Composition: 1 [blank].

Wargear: Twin-linked Exile Beam, Tesla Arc, Fabricator Claw Array

Special Rules: War Construct, Fleet, Aerial Repairs

Options:
- May take Sepulchural Scarabs +15 points

Wargear
Twin-linked Exile Beam:

Range 24" S4 AP2 Heavy 1, Blast, Twin-Linked, Exile Ray
Exile Ray: Codex: Necrons page 114

Tesla Arc: This weapon has two firing modes - Welding Arc and Lightning Arc.
Welding Arc: Range 6", S8 AP1 Heavy 1, Tesla, Melta
Lightning Arc: Range 24" S7 AP- Heavy 4, Tesla

Sepulchural Scarabs: A model with Sepulchural Scarabs has the It Will not Die special rule.

Special Rules
War Construct:
The living metal shell of the larger Canoptek constructs is resilient and adaptable. Weapons that usually wound on a fixed number, such as Poison and Sniper weapons, instead only wound the model on a 6.

Aerial Repairs: While Swooping, the [Blank] may attempt to use its Fabricator Claw Array to repair Zooming fliers it is in base (or hull) contact with, in the same manner as a model embarked upon that flier - note that the vehicle to be repaired does not need to actually be a transport.

Formation: Storm Front
Linking their limbs with lines of electromagnetic force and spreading the power of their Tesla Arcs, the Storm Front formation blankets the battlefield in atmospheric disturbances that confuse targeting systems, disrupt communications, lash out at the unwary and even toast bread caught in the field.

Formation: 2 to 4 Canoptek [blanks].
Restrictions: None.

Special Rules
Atmospheric Disturbance:
Any unit within 12" of a Canoptek [blank] taken as part of a Storm Front formation must use the lowest leadership in the squad for all tests instead of the highest. In addition, any model wishing to benefit from Infra-red Targeting, Markerlights, Targeting Relays, Cognis systems and other technological means of improving their ballistic skill or ignoring cover must pass a Leadership test to do so. Vehicles use the same leadership as the nearest non-vehicle model for this test.

Lightning Storm: At the start of the shooting phase, the tallest model not part of this formation within range of the Atmoshperic Disturbance automatically takes D6 S7 AP- hits. These hits are Randomly Allocated. Vehicles are hit on Side Armour.

Canoptek Sentinel?

I like the rules, especially the Lightning Storm, but I would change it to the following:

- At the start of the shooting phase, the highest-placed model not in this formation on the table automatically takes D6 S7 hits...etc. In addition, any Flyers or Flying Monstrous/Gargantuan Creatures also take D6 S7 hits on the roll of a 5+

This means that it affects the model which is actually placed highest above all others, as your wording can currently be interepreted as "whatever model has the tallest base". This way, it affects units up in sniper towers or tall buildings, etc, just like a typical lightning strike.

Sentinel's already a thing, so that one is out I'm afraid (Its the Stalker with an exile cannon).

The problem with your wording is that it could be argued that a vindicate on a low building is higher placed than a valkyrie flying next to it - the valk's base is lower, but the top of the valk is higher.

How about "the model whose top (including antennae, etc) is highest from the table"?

That was why I put the additional hits to Flyers/FMC in the rule, but yeah it could do with some fine-tuning.
