Need some help fellas, going against some of my friend's skitarii with my tyranids on a relatively regular basis. Need some tactics, advice and/or general tips on what to use. Thank you for taking the time to read this, help would be aprreciated!

Probably would be small scale, below 1,000 points to start with.

The armies that I collect:

- Tyranids, 2,000 pts.
- Orks, 1,250 pts.
- Tau, 750 pts.
- Guard (PDF), 750 pts.

(Yes I have a thing for horde armies to some extent)

Definitely pick yourself up a Biovore or 2. They are cheap pointswise and very effective vs Skitarii.

1) Skitarii have few saves above 4+. Biovores are AP 4.
2) Skitarii are usually T3. Biovores are Str 4, wound on 3's, large blast.
3) Skitarii lack ranged Str 8, using Haywire to deal with vehicles, so you aren't likely to be insta-poped.
4) Long range and Barrage, they will force the enemy to come to you because you can fire out of LOS.
5) As points expand, you can upgrade to a formation based around 2 unit of Biovores and a unit of Warriors that i believe Twin-Links everything, so that will give you something to upgrade into.

Big thanks to ALEXisAWESOME, I'm now strongly considering biovores. Even though I've had the new codex for ages, I had NO idea they were ap4... As you say, their lack of high strength weapons is great, for 'nid players. I was thinking I could field warriors more safely without the threat of instant death in abundance. I believe the living artillery formation your talking about require 2+ biovore units, 3 tyranid warriors, and a exocrine, in return, you get pinning and twin linked - awesome! Probably going to field some of my biovores now, but first I need some spore mine models, so it's of to eBay for me...

Yep a "Liiving Artillery Node" is a very good formation to build toward. Both Tyrannofex, and Mawlocs should be good as well. Mechanics can field fearsome anti air, so less mandatory to spam winged tyrants.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

Thanks pincone77, had no idea they had gak loads of anti-air! That is annoying seeing I'm just painting a winged hive tyrant... Perhaps I'll keep it gliding in ruins with some venomthropes until the anti-air is blown of the table. Got some deep-striking gargoyles to use, to pepper their back-lines with fleshborers, and hopefully distract some shooting to the rest of my swarm, else get some heavy weapon teams blinded and stuck in assault...
