So was thinking of adding an allied detachment of space marines with the new codex release. Any help on where to get inquisition/deathwatch shoulder pads for regular marines. Also any help on how to best represent them using units and chapter tactics.

You can get Deathwatch shoulder pads off GW. Just search for Deathwatch on the store.
A rumour that has surfaced a couple of times is an upcoming Deathwatch codex, either standalone or as part of a Deathwatch vs Genestealer Cult game.
If you don't want to wait for this (when, or even if this will be released is unclear) then I'd go for the Space Marine formation that let's you field a mixture of Terminators, Sternguard and Vanguard. Seems like the most suitable way to me.

For now, use IF tactics on Sternguard Vets for the special ammo, and maybe throw Kantor in there too?
I run mine as an Allied Detachment with a lot of Sternguard and some sniper scouts to pad out the detachment requirements, though you could go Unbound if you really wanted?
Now I think about it, the 1st Company formation would be pretty good with IF and Kantor.

A sternguard kit would be a good start, for weapons and bodies.
Tons of bits, all specials, several hevies and 2 of every combined plus 5 regular scoped, drum mags and box feeds, storm bolters, pistols, a few swords, lots of pads, heads, in short tons of glorious conversion fuel!

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.
FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

IIRC you get 2 deathwatch shoulder pads in the command squad box, and one in the multi-part commander kit. Sternguard is a good source of guns.
I’m still working on putting together a squad. I plan on gearing them so I can use them as either a tac squad, or sternguard.
