I have an escalation league coming up at my local, and I was looking for a little assistance. I put this here because it didn't fit the format for the army lists forum.
Here are the rules:
Spoiler:
- One codex. No allies.
- All armies use the "classic" Force Org chart (1-2 HQ, 2-6 Troop, 0-3 Elite, 0-3 Heavy Support, 0-3 Fast Attack. No Command Benefits.
- No Fortifications or Lord of War selections.
Escalation Rules:
Spoiler:
-Game one is 500 points.
-Each week the points value increases 250.
-Once a unit is taken, it must be taken again in every subsequent week.
-Units may not decrease in points or model size. Wargear selections may be altered, added, or dropped, but the total points and model count for the unit must be equal or larger than the week before. (For the purposes of these restrictions, Dedicated Transports count as being part of the unit they are selected for.)
- Units may not take upgrades between weeks which change their unit type. (You cannot field a Space Marine Command Squad as infantry and then upgrade them to bikes the following week, for example.)
Before I present my lists, whenever I've presented lists in the past I've always had people advocating the addition of units I don't own. To prevent that, here's a list of the models at my disposal.
My available models:
Spoiler:
Lelith Hesperax
Urien Rakarth
Drazhar
3 Haemonculi (Scissorhand)
2 Archon (1 with sword, 1 with sword and blast pistol)
20 wyches (2 agonizer, 6 hydra gauntlets)
40 warriors (8 blaster/Dark Lance, 4 Splinter Cannon)
50+ wracks (1/5 ossefactors)
10 grotesques (2 scissorhands)
20 incubi
12 reavers (4 cluster caltrops, 4 heat lance)
15 hellions
15 scourges (4 heat lance, 4 haywire blaster)
5 Venoms
6 Raiders
1 Razorwing
3 Ravagers (magnetized to serve double duty as extra raiders)
1 Reaper
3 Taloi (Splinter cannon/Ichor injector)
3 Cronos (3 Spirit Probe, 1 Cronos is magnetized and can serve as a 4th Talos)
I've got the skills and the will to do minor bit conversions on them, but I lack the funds to purchase any new models during the campaign. (So Voidraven Bombers, Beast packs, adding two more Talos, etc, are all out as far as options go.)
Any suggestions or alterations are more than welcome! The large number of restrictions here have kind of stymied me. My normal Freakshow lists won't be possible with the composition restrictions. The de facto ban on Haemonculus Covens and Harlequins also limits my ability to run the army I have the most experience with under the new Codex. (Covens.) So any kind of aid is most appreciated.
I feel you have the best possible build for week 1 and 2 but on 3 and 4 I have a burning hatred of Blasterborn. They just never work for me and they are so expensive, so on the chance they don't kill what you want (1/2 the time they fail) they simply melt to return fire.
Instead of Blasterborn i suggest a Dark Lance Ravager, and use the remaining points to boost up the Reaver unit. For the next increment I would suggest the other Ravager and the Reaper (Remember it can buy Flickerfields for 10pts!).
Ravagers don't have to get as close as Blasterborn, meaning they are shooting from turn 1 and have more then 1 turn of life to pop what they want. And Reavers are just amazing, no questions really.
Then at 5 i would add another Grotesque unit lead by a Succubus (Use Hekatrix or Lilith model) and at 6 another 2 Warrior in Venom units.
Your end list would be
Archon
Succubus
Grotesques
Grotesques
4xWarriors in Venoms
2 units of Scourges, special weaponed to the brim.
Large unit of Reavers
2xDL Ravager
Reaper.
Seems to have all the bases covered and also has a very strong assault element. Only did rough point work in my head, so it might be a few points in or out in some places.

I've had almost the opposite, with my Ravagers critically underperforming. The Blasterborn seem like they'd be more durable (even once the vehicle is destroyed they remain effective), and they suffer no fire penalties for their transport Jinking.
Hadn't thought about another unit of grots. Interesting notion, I'll have to take a look at that too.
