Hello everybody!
As the title suggests, i'm starting a new list for my imperial guard with an emphasis on vehicles.
What would be a recommended vehicle for the tank commander? I'm thinking exterminator or vanquisher.
What other vehicles would be recommended?

The general idea is to use pretty much all vehicles (as i love IG vehicles) , such as devil dogs, russes everywhere and hopefully some artillery too, i'd also love to give the wyvern a try!
thanks for any advice!

Upgrade to Pask, it's worth it. In higher point games, he's good in a Punisher with lascannon and MM sponsons. This gives him a variety of targets instead of overkill on his already incredible infantry shredding. This allows him to be a nightmare for MCs and vehicles. The other two can be a variety of things, but my favorite is two executioners with the same hull and sponson weapons

Imperial Guard tank commander in any battle tank of your choice with Extra Armour, Firebarrels, Recovery Gear, Artificer Hull, Coaxial Heavy Stubber (Only for regular Battle Tanks, Demolishers Eradicators and Vanquishers), Anti Grenade Mesh and a Mine Plough (optional but really fun). (The last 4 can be found in Imperial Armour volume 2)

If you are running a vanilla IG list (IE not an armoured company) then take two more tanks to escort your commander. Make sure both these tanks are of the same type as one another so you can use the Split Fire order effectively and ensure to give them Firebarrels and Anti Grenade Mesh.

For troops it depends. Either way you will want at base two veteran squads with the Grenadiers and Demolitions doctrines, and two to three Meltas. Mount both of them in Chimera APC's. As a note do NOT give the Chimeras Artificer Hulls, it is just not worth it.

From here it honestly depends upon whether you are using the vanilla IG list found in the book or the Armoured Company found in Imperial Armour.

If you are using the Vanilla list then take two more Veteran squads kitted out in the same way as above. This will give you 4 mobile squads with decent armour and good fire support for capturing objectives.

If you are going with the Armoured Company then take two Tank Squadrons. Outfit one as a vanilla Leman Russ squad consisting of Battle tanks and the other as a specialist squad of Exterminators, Eradicators or Vanquishers.
Add on to this a Siege tank squadron outfitted with either Thunderers (good and cheap) or Leman Russ Demolishers (more guns but can get pricey). Artificer hulls are an option here, but can get pricey, and Firebarrels are a must as is Recovery Gear.
Finally add in another Veteran Squad, outfitted as with the other two.

For fast attack consider Scout Sentinels armed with Autocannons and Hunter Killers. Use the Outflank deployment rule to get them behind your enemies lines and aim for the rear arcs of his tanks.
Valkyries are another good choice, as are Vendettas and these can be used to carry fast moving squads of Storm Troopers. These specialist units can be used to make sudden attacks at areas your opponent thought to be secure, or they can be used to grab a vital objective fast.

Finally the Hellhounds are worth a look at. Whilst only lightly armoured they are fast enough to really make your opponents life miserable. Pick your flavour carefully though - each one specialises at one role. The Hellhound is good for dealing with swarms and Light Infantry. It also excels at scout busting. The Bane Wolf is a great tank buster and can murder Heavy Infantry. Finally the Devil Dog makes a good MEQ killer, albeit a short ranged one.

Heavy Support is an important point. For either list a must have is a squadron of Hydra's as the amount of flyers available these days mean that any army lacking in AA cover will soon suffer. Take a full three tank squadron.

If you chose from the vanilla codex then here is the point where you will want, at the very least, one tank squadron. Bring 2 regular Battle tanks and 1 Demolisher/Eradicator/Vanquisher and use them too hammer the foe.
If you can afford it a second squadron of specialised tanks such as Punisher's or Executioners are also a good choice.

Finally choose some artillery. Manticore's are good and Wyvern's are a favoured choice amongst most, but the one gun that cannot be beat is the Bombard. If you have access to the IA book then bring a couple.
If Artillery is not to your tastes then consider either a Super Heavy such as a Baneblade, Shadow Sword or Machirus (The Malcador is sadly too expensive for what it does, but is a fun choice if your going for a fluffy army) or some more AA.

If you want to branch into Elites then the best choices are Destroyer Tank Hunters (In an Armoured Company) or Storm Troops (Militum Tempestus). Both of these offer a good, strong unit, one capable of murdering tanks and the other a fast moving and flexible unit.

Punisher pask with executioner squadmate.
Meltavets in chimeras.
A couple of wyverns.

That's really the basics. Add flyers, more battle tanks and utility as you see fit.

Welcome to the guard, the emperor's most mediocre!

There are 3 options for running armor heavy:
1) Vanilla guard
2) Steel host formation
3) Forgeworld

Steel host gives your russes PE when in 12 of the command tank, which makes executioners and vanquishes better, but you still need an HQ and 2 troops to be a bound list.

Vanilla gives you options and is the most economical for its points, but can suffer from the inability to deal with certain situations.

Forgeworld armored company is amazing. The upgrades make russes hugely better and the support vehicles (tank orders and salamander command vehicles) resolve cover problems. Jet bikes do not enjoy ap3 pie plates that force them to reroll their jink at -1! Wraith knights are much less scary with 4 coaxial stubber bs 4 instant death vanquishes across the table. The problem is that it's Forgeworld, so expensive and not everyone will let you run it. Still, take a look if you get a chance. You'll have problems with assault units getting up in your business, but that's the fate of a tank commander!

If you do go FW, then definitely get autocannons for your chimeras. Also, consider flamers rather than meltaguns for your mechvets for Wall of Flame.

2 meltas and 1 heavy flamer is the (debatable) best load out for mech vets.

I myself go 2 plasmas 1 HF. My Melta squad is 3 meltas in order to land more hits for when something needs to die.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!
