I've been looking at the DKoK Death Rider Army list, and I like the idea of a cavalry based regiment, however I don't want to do DKoK (because somebody at my local group plays them already and we all try to have different armies), but converting some fantasy Empire cavalry to be suitable for 40k would be expensive, time consuming, and I am not really competent with green stuff to boot.

So, could anyone suggest some WW1 or WW2 cavalry miniatures armed with rifles, carbines or pistols in 28mm scale? Because i'm having a lot of trouble finding some. Any suggestions are welcome and much appreciated.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Giving this a bump and hoping for the best now.

I was going to use some of the cavalry models from Warhammer Fantasy Battle, I never think to look at other sites or games because I don't know anything about them or where to start looking!

They also have more normal cavalry bodies in a very praetorian guard style and various torsos and other bits. A simple head swap beyond that would do a lot towards getting a really unique regiment. As far as the base models to convert, the Empire Pistoliers are an ideal base to work from.

or.... you can go online find some cheap horses, cheap biker legs
then create some SM Calvary count as bikers, give them grey long melee weapons, you can make attack bikes out of chariots.

WW1, WW2 cavalry don't know. Warlord Games would be worth a look. I know the Perrys do both American Civil War and Napoleonic Cavalry in plastic which would be excellent. Just type it in and Google search it is your best bet. They're definitely out there in metal.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

WW1 and other historical cavalry will tend not to be sculpted in heroic scale, meaning that they will look very spindly compared to 40k models, even Death Korps.

As others have suggested, just doing some head swaps on warhammer fantasy produces a nice effect. Some gasmasks from pig iron productions on empire pistoliers would look great.

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

OUtriders/Pistoliers are what I'm using for my all-plastic kitbash Praetorians:

A little triming of the leg details makes the legs look less plate-armoured and more padded/future-armoured. Cadian torsos fit perfectly.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

I started a DKoK Death Rider army awhile back, but it was themed around a spooky fallen regiment risen from the grave to fight again, so I used Vampire Counts Black Knights for all the cavalry. Might not be what you wanted specifically, but they were surprisingly easy to convert over.
