Quick intro this my first post and new to 40k daemonkin is my first army. I"am at the point now where all I need is possessed and I can run slaughter cult. I read the book and understand the benefits and would like to but problem is I'm not crazy about GW telling me how to take my other formations after this. Example I like flesh hounds but I hate I have to buy two bike squads to get them. Or may want a land raider at some point without terminators .

Being my first army I was going to build up to about 1250 points and play that for awhile see if I liked it or maybe start another army.So with that in mind at that point range should I go all in and build slaughter cult plus it's formations. Or will I be able to play just as well on a Cad fielding the units I like? Thank you for your time

Hey there, welcome to the hobby. The first thing you should note is that there is no right or wrong way to build your army, it is entirely up to you to field whatever you want (slight restrictions with being a battle forged army though of course).

As for the CAD or Blood Host detachment, it really depends on what you want to bring to your fight. A lot of people don't quite like the Blood Host but I personally bring it along with the Slaughtercult, a Gorepack and a few War Engines simply because it suits my play style.

There are reasons to use a CAD instead though. For example, I think the formation to bring a Heldrake requires too many extra models that I don't want so in that case to bring it along I would take a CAD and bring my army accordingly. Another instance is to include a Land Raider since there is no way to include one in the Blood Host.

All up to you and what units you have/want to include. I know this is a bit vague but I hope it helps a little bit.

Sounds like a CAD would suit you better. The extra blood point per turn isn't really worth all the hoops of the blood host. It is still a good way to take lots of daemon engines
