So firstly, looks like Phoenix lords no longer are restricted to joining their own aspects, so therefore could join other aspect squads -- unless I'm missing something?

Also I had always assumed autarchs with hawk wings, warp packs, or jetbikes for that matter could not mount into transports -- but if these wargear items just confer bulky or very bulky USR on them, doesn't that mean they can get in a wave serpent after all?

Cheers

Not sure about warp pack, but hawk wings definitely change the unit type to jump infantry, and jetbikes change it to jetbike type.

Neither of which are permitted to embark on transports

As for pheonix lords. I believe they are independant characters and i dont know of any restrictions that stops them from joining any other aspect unit

EDIT: Warp jump generators change the model to jet pack infantry. So none of those options allow you in a wave serpent

"If you wait a few months, they'll pick one of the worst codexes and they'll nerf almost everything, its an abstract sort of balance, but it's the sort of balance gw likes... "

The main thing about putting PL in other aspects is that some of them lose their benefits. Put Asurmen in a group of Banshees and the Banshees no longer get to run/assault +3", and Mugan Ra in a squad of Dire Avengers no longer gets bs 2 overwatch or stubborn and counter attack. If you put Asurmen in a group of dark reapers though the reapers still get the re-rolls against the fast moving stuff, and Mugan Ra in a dragon squad the dragons still get the +1 to the damage chart. There is nothing stating since the 4th ed codex about PL joining other aspects.

While the wargear options don't just confer bulky or very bulky USR, the USR is included because the USR come into play in other rules.

Some Phoenix Lords can benefit from joining other squads. If Asurmen joins Banshees with Exarch, the -2 LD from the Banshee can actually help trigger his Diresword. As soon as Maugan Ra joins the Dragons, they can all ignore Jink because of his Rangefinder.

Incorrect on Ra + Dragons - Reaper Rangefinders only work on the model themselves, and are not conferred to the unit. Plus, Ra doesn't even have one.

Great thanks for all the replies dakkaites -- is there a page number i can look up regarding the jump/jet/jetbike type characters and transports?

Sounds like phoenix lords can join whatever aspects now, that is a cool change for the new!

Thanks again

'Transport Capacity' in the Vehicles section of the main rulebook.

Page 80 - Transports - Transport Capacity. First sentence tells you only Infantry can embark, second sentence tells you that "Infantry" doesn't include "Jump Infantry" or "Jet Infantry".

I'm reasonably sure that it was changed in the previous codex.
