An interesting one I heard about between a Chaos and Eldar player:

Eldar player was able to shoot a toughness 6 daemon prince with a unit of wraithguard, and one of the guns rolled a 6 to wound.  According to the weapon, this makes it instant death.  The Chaos player said that in the rules characteristics can never go beyond a certain value.  For instance, strength can only go up to 10.  The Chaos player claimed that for the wraithcannon to be instant death against his prince it would have to be strength 12, as instant death is defined by strength values.  So, therefore, his prince could only take a single wound from it. It seems like a pretty tangled argument of rules, but does it have any validity?

Double Strength always causes Instant Death

does not mean

Instant Death is always caused by Double Strength

Other than that, I cannot comment on the Eldar weapon (until December ).

Ahoj!
Chaos player is wrong.
The whole point of the Eldar Wraithcannon is that has no S characterisitc.
It wounds - regardless of toughness - on a 4 or 5, and a roll of "6" causes instant death.

I can't wait for the next Codex to come out, with insanely pumped up Wraithguard, so that GW can sell more models, only to have their dreams smashed by the realization that I have 20 unopened blisters! (That I purchased from Neal at theWarStore no less)

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

I can hardly wait for the new Codex to come out with new and improved everything, excluding starcannons which will most likely suck.
I will then build a huge army, minimize the advantages and bring it to tournaments so that I frequently lose. This will alow me to moan incessantly about how nerfed the Eldar are now. Unless there are Harlequins in which case win, lose or draw I will proclaim their superiority over everything else and completely ignore any attempt to reason with me, should I in fact be wrong.

I have nothing useful to add.

The only way a model can survive a failed save and a shot from a wraithcannon is a deamon prince with a deamonic rune, a very seldom used gift.

Aren't Demon princes at best 6(5) anyways?

Edit:  I'm also pretty sure the demonic rune specificaly says instant death from double strength hits, so you can still be splatted by things like force weapons.

I think the only thing that can survive a Waithcannon "6" is a C'tan, who only take 1 wound without a save.

Yes the Demon Prince is dead.

Yeah, the highest unmodified toughness (which is used for Instant Death calculations) that you can get on a demon prince is 5, so that Chaos player's argument is flawed in two ways.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
