Hey folks,

I was able to pick up a knight castigator for cheaps from somebody who bought it off e-bay (he even suspected it was a recast). So I took it off his hand, promising it would receive some TLC.

It went from looking like this:

To this (after some disassembly and an isopropanol and ethanol bath):

I'll try to get some good pictures in a lightbox etc. from this model. It's my first titan size project of my own, so I'm a bit out of my comfortzone in terms of photography.

Wow that looks awesome. Definitely a massive improvement over the old painting.

Great job on resurrecting this model! I have a few nitpicks, I hope you don't mind, but they come with praise for other work you've done.

My only real critique is that the weathering seems a bit contrived, and usually less is more with damage unless you can really immerse a subject in it's environment to make it believable.

The other thing that bothers me a bit is the uniform and stark edging you did on the metal armour trim. I think you could tone that down a bit, but that may be your preference to have that look. I know it was mine at one point so I don't let it detract from my opinion of the model as a whole.

The great thing about this is the sword, really nice job there. I also like the scheme you've chosen, which is overall nicely applied.

Good job!

I am loving this model and the fact it is a restoration is testament to your skill as a modeller/painter.

Do you have a tutorial for the preparation of the model before you repaint it? I am curious because i have a lot of old tau models that i would love to have the chance to repaint

Thanks.

the fact that it was a restoration made my wallet (and missus) happy as well. I got it for $90, and all in all, the model was not THAT hard to restore.

The panels were loose (previous owner did you bluetac)... So that made the job a lot easier. The paint was stripped using a 70% ethanol mixture (rubbing alcohol basically). Isopropanol will also do the job just fine for stripping plastics and resin (stuff that doesn't stand up to acetone based solvents).

That's how it should look kudos to the awesome paintwork dude, nice to see it returned to glory and the subtle but excellent weathering looks great

Trust to him to intercede, and protect his warriors true as they deal death on alien soil.

And turn their songs into cries of lamentation."
