it depends on how strong a tone you want the ink to have...
straight out of the bottle, the ink will have very strong tone...
thinned with water, it gets weaker as you add more water...

i use about 10 drops of water to 1 drop of P3 ink for a glaze, and don't slather it on like i would a wash...
if you want to use it like a wash, try a 5-1 ratio instead, and mix a tiny touch of dishwashing liquid soap so it will run into the recesses...
