I am debating on ordering a Spartan Assault tank for play in both 30k/40k and planning to attend some events in 2016.

I know that D spam will be an issue as will the Skyhammer Annihilation Force toting graviton devastators. My question isn't what can counter it but overall can that vehicle offer lift to 40k marines.

Thank you,

That game put my faith in Khorne to the test. My table-neighbor looked at the match up and said "Here you're going to need these more than I will" and handed me a bag of Jello shots. They must have pleased Khorne because I walked out 11-2.

Now looking at another list with MORE tyrants and MORE mawlocks, I said to myself. "Oh well looks like it's time for another beer. It'll take the sting out of this. LOL"

It's literally worth it for being able to purchase Ceramite alone and the extra HP and Extra Armor.
Wraithguard kinda threw that out of the window though.

If you use one then you need a unit to go inside, otherwise that transport goes to waste, are you chaos or loyalist?

Debating on Salamanders or Imperial Fist and I have not ruled out Iron Warriors. For 30k it would be Firedrakes or a large breacher squad with attached characters.

40k you don't get the mileage but a large terminator squad would still be fun.

Think you answered it yourself. Grav, haywire and D-weapons will ruin it. It's gona be fine if you don't meet any of those.

The Spartan is a good tank for a good price (honestly, the basic Land Raider should be cheaper). It can still die to a single shot, and it sucks if it gets immobilized turn 1, which happens to mine all too often. Just make sure you have other equally threatening targets to attract your opponent's antitank fire.

It's really good in 30K with the flare shield upgrade.

If your going salamanders, go drop pod for 30k, it means you can't use the right of war they have but pod salamanders are brutal with 10 str6 heavy flamers or 10 flamers from a support squad, str 5 for them, add in better melta too.

Imperial fists is much easier, breachers are bloody amazing and that army needs to be defensive castle build, a spartan would be a solid centre for an imp fist army, if you want breachers, go phalanx wardens, they are just better and t5 with an apothecary is solid as nails, if you want to win combats go with a few fists or thunder hammers, take at least 1 quad heavy bolter (3 is best for all that bs5 twin linked shooting)... Urgh 30k is difficult because of all the options but fists works best with

Hq, eternal warrior archeotech, solarite power fist, digital weapons.
Either a master of signal or siege breaker for bonus to artillery.

2 breacher sqauds of 15 men or 2 phalanx sqaud, same size

2/3 quad heavy bolter rapiers,
Apothecary unit

2 heavy support sqauds for tank hunting

Then whatever you like, but that's a solid base.

I actually decided to go with Fists. I am working on tactical squads first since that is what I have and I am planning on two units of breachers and a nice big unit Phalanx Warders. I am a take the charge kind of player so they fit better.

I actually fell in love with Sigusmund and the Templar Wardens. Planning on them coming out of a Phobus and chain fist/Storm shield terms out of the Spartan with flare shields. Couple tactical squads in rhinos and a Sicaran will round it out.

Everything scores in 30k that is not a vehicle so it should do well objective wise. It will translate ok to 40k but I am more worried about 30k and just having fun with 40k right now. The long term plan is a huge squad of warders with a consul apoth and two breacher squads. I might use Alexis and DS the Warders. Drop them on an obj and sit there with +1 T and +1 I on the charge plus having defensive grenades with enough power axes to mess people up.

In 40k I doubt the Spartan will live more than 2 turns against most stuff. That is fine. In 30K I am saving money for a Thunderhawk so at 3k points I can have Dorn have a cool toy to drive around.

I believe the spartan can take Dozerblades as well as armored Ceramite. I think it is a solid buy for the money.

People who stopped buying GW but wont stop bitching about it are the vegans of warhammer

I never had an issue with it as a CSM transport. Delivered my Chosen / Terminators / Berzerkers just fine, and absorbed a lot of melta shots along the way.

Buy Ceramite. It's important. If you do go CSM, get a Legacy of Ruin with it.

Eldar D weapons are an overrated threat to a Spartan. They can kill a tank, sure, but it's not like that threat hasn't existed before.

Do the 40k versions get the option for a flare shield?

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

No flare shield in 40K.

No sadly the Mechanicus has forgotten to much. More likely it is my own Legion's fault for not saving Mar's two principle forges.

For marines I actually have been thinking about schism of mars and armored ceramite, which I agree is a must. Schism of Mars is saves vs. haywire and tank hunter. Makes those those rapiers hit that much harder.

In my meta nobody really plays Eldar a the LGS and the monthly tournament I might play in doesn't allow forge world but my escalation league does. My group also has two 30k players and me and another guy getting into it.
