Remember when Grav Centurions came out? It was great wasn't it. Remember that they made other variants? Me neither. However Pedro gives a new lease of life to so much assault stuff. So here goes:

CAD
Pedro: 185
Scouts: Vet/maul, LSS/AssCann 135
Scouts: Vet/maul, LSS/MM 130
3 Centurions: hurricanes, meltas, vet 190
3 Centurions: hurricanes, meltas, vet 190
8 Honourguard: champ/sword, 4 mauls, 3 axes, Emperors Standard 270

Land Raider Spearhead
Redeemer: MM 250
Redeemer: MM 250
Redeemer: MM 250

So Cents should be pumping out 16 S8 Ap2 armourbane attack each unit at I4 which makes a Knight VERY scared. Pedros silly unit does what it does with 56 power weapon attacks (and 12 bolter shots before charging). Scouts go for objectives. Land raiders do their thing. What do you think?

I've only ever used conventional and Crusader LRs. Redeemers have always seemed fun; I guess they just seem clunky to use.

Anyway, it seems like a ball to play. Of course, any CC Deathstar with invisibility will be trouble. And I'd be worried about Drop Pod oriented Gladius' if they got top turn for melta alpha strike.

I think its a good list for assault cents.

Melta and grav is of course bad news, but melta to get into 1/2 weapon range to really be a threat, and even then if they hit AV14 with 8+2d6 the average roll may be 15, but the chance to roll 14 or less is 43% or so. You might see 1 landraider drop to drop pods.

I would expect to see a a land raider or two drop to a heavy drop pod list, but if that happens your in charge range with the assault cents or whatever...

Against non marines av14 is pretty tough, lots of other competitive contenders are FMC heavy which aren't touching the landraiders outside of haywire templates from tyrants if they get in range. Eldar would also have problems as many eldar armies seem to be quite points heavy into S6 jetbikes.

would be fun to try in a tournament I think.

I've seen assault centurions make a nice mess from time to time.

The thing to compare them to is Tactical terminators - gaining armourbane and shedding unwieldy, and upping a stormbolter to a hurricane bolter, but still essentially a similar unit.

Land raiders are nice. If you can take a detachment with a fortification slot, though, I find assault centurions work best from a fortification complex (rather apt for a siege unit) - an Imperial Bunker with an Escape Hatch upgrade is arguably tougher than a land raider, is immune to grav weapons, and is only slightly more expensive than a gunned-up razorback.

In return, you get your squad into combat as fast or faster than the 'raider - deploy the bunker on the edge of your deployment zone, deploy the centurions inside (and you can take a biggish squad), place the escape hatch 12" forward, and deploy from the hatch on the far side of that. Adding in the size of the centurion's own bases and the size of the hatch itself and they're practically in the enemy's deployment zone turn one.

One other bit of advice? Retain Ironclad Assault Launchers on the sergeant. You want multiple hurricane bolters for small arms fire, but (a) you only need one defensive grenade spread to mess up an attacker - and as an assault unit you WILL get charged at some point and you can't fire overwatch) and (b) since you're paying for non-unwieldy weapons of smashyness, you want at least one guy to be able to strike in initiative order.

An assault centurion sergeant is a real challenge monster, too; 3 attacks, instant death-causing weapons, a 2+ armour save and multiple wounds..... I don't know about you but I'd happily take him into bat against most space marine captain equivalents.

Why are buildings immune to grav? They are more vulnerable to it than the LRs with only 3 HPs. Also remember you need FOUR 6s to kill a Landraider with grav. To be honest I'm not that concerned by a Drop Pod army or the Skyhammer.

Invisistar causes far more issues.

I prefer Redeemers to Crusaders as they are 10 points cheaper and have the same main weaponry. Whilst the Flamestorms will rarely fire one good shot with one of them will do as much damage as a whole game of Hurricane fire (as most of that will be snapfiring).

Why would the Centution Sarge only have 3 attacks? In this list he gets 6 on the charge. But yes swapping him over to assault launchers does make sense thanks for that.

I agree blaktoof this could be antimeta as AV14 is not that common people are less prepared to deal with it en masse particularly given the downward trend in Knights recently.

Sorry. Not immune. But more resilliant (than a normal tank, anyway) - because of "immobilized result on an already immobilized vehicle", which doesn't affect buildings.

A land raider will take as much punishment as a bunker - three hits - but a redeemer will be fairly useless after the first because it's only "reach out and touch you" weapons are the multimelta and the (limited traverse) assault cannons.

Nope 4 hits for a Land raider. Why would the first cause me any problems? I'll still move. You do know I'm immune to immobilised results right? In fact all damage table results except explodes. You do understand the basic rules of the army you are offering advice on right?

I've been toying around with a similar pedro honourguard unit myself, although in a raven. But less honourguard and a techmarine with servo-harness instead (so 5 + Pedro + tech, no axes). Techmarines not too shabby in CC and there's a bunch more power fist attacks. Sometimes the ap1 you get from the servo arms cool too. Of course he can also help keep the transport ticking over. Plus I like having a flamer floating around and the plasma pistol can't do much else other than hit.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

I think bunkers have 4HP, but I guess you can't afford to lose the LR formation.

Nope still 3. For me Bastions should have 4 but alas even they are 3.
