Hi all,

An idea I have come across on here is that of a big mek on a bike with a kustom force field. The idea is that he can ride behind your battlewagons so that they all benefit from the save, and use his mobility to move the forcefield to where it's most needed or fix vehicles.

How should I equip him for this role?

My main concern is that, on his own, he will be fairly easy to pick off, but bikers are a bit expensive to function as mere ablative wounds.

Also, should I give him da fixer uppers for better repairing or the blitza bike for more dakka?

Yes, fixer uppers and forcefield with no weapon upgrades. If he is in combat, he is dead. Obviously, this mek cannot be your warlord. I have played him this way in the last 10 or so games, and he has performed amazingly well in almost all cases. Selecting him from the Ghazkull supplement is also an option, to get him the 4+ invul save instead of the fixer uppers. Either way, he only survives if the enemy has far more numerous and dangerous threats coming towards them. He works well surrounded by killa kans, deff dreads, morkanaut/gorkanaut etc. Or, of course, if he is completely hidden from sight behind vehicles.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love

If you want to hide him in a group that is just as mobile consider deffkoptas. Having a character in such a unit would be incentive to bring more then just one.

Hmm... I still think koptas are too expensive for this particular role (hiding behind battlewagons). But I guess you can't have everything.

a single kopta, gives you two wounds, scout, HnR. All for 30 points. Personally, a very cheap escort that gives him some great benefits.

However, I would try running him naked, I mean if they are choosing to shoot your KFF/MFF carrier, then you still have a decent chance of the units HE'S protecting getting to combat. I find with orks you must think of every unit as sacrificable, sure he's like 100 points, but if he took off enough heat that your now where you want to be then who cares if he dies You have a good chance of him hiding anyway, a BW is big enough for him to be completely BLOS.

As for another escort; 3-4 coptas, him but add a Killsaw, and a Pianboy on bike. You now have a unit which puts out some serious TL rokkit shots and has a 4+/5++/5+FNP they are pretty darn survivable and good for tank hunting once up the board.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

Big mek on a bike with a Kustom Force field is a pretty nice piece. I've got one myself. I use him to protect my bikers and trukks. He still has a twin-linked deff gunz, and a chopa. If you want him there for the sole purpose to repair battle wagons, you should take the fixa upa relic. I don't know If I spend the points for an escort. It will just draw attention to him. You might also want to take a couple grot oilers for a re-roll. You never know when you might need to fix something on the battlewagon.
