I was fiddling around with a 30K salamanders list and trying to see how I can make it fit into the meta at my LGS. I looked to my 40K salamanders for some guidance and realized I can add the sky hammer formation into my 30K Salanders list while keeping it battleforged since formations are self-sustainable. I then realized that the only requirements for the skyhammer formation is 2 assault squads and 2 devasdators which are all options avaliable in the 30K codex as well... Sooo I was wondering is there anyway this can be used so we can use 30K assaults marines and devasdators to fill that formation? Since 20x S6 (30k salamanders special rule) AP4 flamer shots is guaranteed death for whatever is fired upon (not to mention all the cheap inferno pistol upgrades and MC that salamanders could give the squads). Or would the formation be only stuff out of the Space Marine Codex in particular? If so, what about BA, SW, DA, etc? Really curious. Thanks for reading everyone!!

Pain4Pleasure is correct; the datasheet for the Skyhammer Annihilation Force has the Faction: Space Marines symbol at the top.

Unless 30K Space Marines are also Faction: Space Marines, but it should be pretty clear it's not intended if so...

You are correct on one account, they are space marines.

The 2 sqauds you are referring to are
Legion heavy support sqaud.
Legion assault sqaud

The sky hammer is
Devastator sqauds
Assault sqauds

They are not the same unit sadly, also hh do not have "factions" that I'm aware of as the above poster said, being a space marine isn't enough to qualify for the formation.

I knew it was too good to be true haha. Guess I am also safe to assume that allying 30K legions with 40K stuff doesn't help each other at all since they technically aren't battle brothers eh ( More like battle... Father and son)? Like I can't take some razorbacks from my space marine fast attack slots and let my 30K buddies hop on?

The Horus Heresy rules have their own Allies Matrix but it's made up of the 30K Legions, Mechanicum and Imperial Army, so yeah, there's basically nothing beyond coming to an agreement with your opponent beforehand.

Yeah that's what I thought, no factions, basically the same as 5th but with allies, also can't do unbound etc. Basically 30k is a different ruleset.
