Hi, has anyone experience with applying wash through the airbrush?

I can imagine it's faster and more controlled when washing large areas, e.g. a whole mini in Agrax or Nuln Oil etc. I can also imagine that the wash dries faster and hence won't pool well in the cracks.

I'd like to give it a shot. But maybe someone has some words of wisdom before I ruin a nice base layer job

Not for detail wash of course.

Considering the properties of the medium used to make washes. I think the airbrush is entirely unnecessary. Citadel Washes/Shades don't require any precision or accuracy. Just slather it on the area and it'll pull off the raised areas and collect in the recesses all by itself. This is why I call their shades talent in a pot.

I have done it. Works fine. Useful for staining surfaces. It's quite expensive! I think I would just thin AB paint next time. It does not behave like a wash, and run into recesses. You would not want to spray it on that thick.

This.

Spraying on the wash isn't like slathering it on with a brush. However, they can be used for adding shadows or tinting another color so it can fun to use them. What you can do is give the model a coat of gloss varnish, spray an enamel wash all over the surface, allow it to dry for fifteen minutes of so, and then wipe off the excess with a rag. It will clean the enamel off the raised surfaces while leaving it in the recesses.

Tried it once.

Goes through fine, it just doesn't act anything like a wash.

It seemed like it was more of a glaze, which is great if that's what you want.

I see I see. Interesting application of the airbrush. I'll have to keep that in mind. Although I use a gw medium to make my own glazes/tints. I suppose I can be notorious for not thinking out of the box. Good thing for these forums.

You need 3-5 coats to get a good effect that reveals the details, but I regularly use washed through the airbrush.

Thanks guys. Seems like the effect would be different so I'll probably stick to the good old gloss varnish by airbrush but wash by paintbrush.
