So I was thinking it would be cool to see more alternatives to heavy weapons in the form of salvo guns. The idea of giving each squad something like a light machine gun to help encourage more mobility in games. Having salvo bolters rather than the heavy bolter is something id much rather take. Heck even a form of storm bolters as a special weapon for tac marines. Think it would help alleviate more the gun lines of older additions. I thoroughly enjoy maelstrom mission for making me move, but in my guard army id rather not have to snapshot my heavy weapons just to claim an objective. I've always tried to play using something akin to modern day tactics and strategy, and being able to give a hotshot volley gun to each sqaud would be cool.

NO.
AM are over priced and under powered as it is. Let them keep what little advantage they have.

Besides, the Hell Volley Gun is a Light Machine Gun. A Heavy Bolter is the equivalent of a light Autocannon. There is no way in hell that you could lift and carry it whilst firing effectively. Even the Heavy Stubber is essentially a Heavy Machinegun. Try lugging a .30 or .50 and firing it on the move. You cant. End of story.

I hate the mechanic for Salvo. So I vote no simply on that principle.

We're also not super human space marines. I think there should be more salvo guns because it is a well balanced mechanic

Heh, somebody didn't play in 3rd Edition. Rapid Fire used to be close to what Salvo is now. Imagine Bolters only firing one shot at 12" if they moved, firing twice at 12" or once at 24" if they didn't. Those were the days...

I would love to see more Salvo. It makes games a bit more tactical, giving up firepower for mobility. Assault weapons were special back then...

No. So why do we cost as much as super human Space Marines? Leave the AM with what little they have. They need it.

Im not say I make heavy bolters salvo for AM. Just have lighter variations that are salvo. Like how the volley gun is an up juiced hotshot, have the regular bolter stat with a higher rof.

The AM really struggle on their own in larger games but small games under 1k they really can shine, if they keep their fire power concentrated they can really decimate squads. Taking the ground formation with plasma guns and a plasma pistol twin linked also good. At 2k they struggle to take on tougher foes like give tyrants and lab raiders, 2-4 melts guns can't get close enough without sacrificing the unit

Sisters can take Storm Bolters on their line infantry squads.

Nobody ever does. they're useless. You're paying 5 points for an extra shot at long range.

Make heavy bolters Salvo 3/5, and people will start using the damn things, again.

I just find it difficult as I need to move about a lot to keep in cover as bolters shred my AM. Then all my heavy hitters can't do anything snapshotting. Would promote more mobility having a S4 AP- Salvo 2/4 in each squad to really dish out some shots

Imagine that, infantry gets shredded by anti-infantry heavy weapons.

When it comes to the Imperium, there's a list of specifications for their weapons:

1) Effective against heavy infantry
2) Safe to operate/Reliable
3) Great Range
4) High volume of fire
5) Easy to transport/wield

... you only get to choose 2 of those things, though.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
