Greetings everyone.

Just wanting to pose a quick question regarding Relics & Characters.

I'm currently sourcing parts for my 5th Battle company captain & want to make sure this is a legal build, strictly speaking.

I'm wanting to field two relics on him. Specifically the Crown Angelic, along with Valor's Edge.

In total, his full wargear list is as follows: Artificer Armor, Iron Halo, Bolt Pistol, Valor's Edge, The Crown Angelic, Jump Pack, Frag, and Krak Grenades. Totals him up to 155 points, which is a little high for a captain, but still reasonable I think.

I don't see a restriction on Relics beyond the statement that an one Blood Angels army cannot field more than one of any specific Relic, I.E. no having two captains each wearing The Crown Angelic, etc.

Am I interpreting this correctly? Just making sure before I start purchasing minis & bits here and begin the build process. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Take it easy.

Maybe. Assuming that the Relics of Baal list (the one that lists point values) has no further restrictions, then yes. However, if, like most codices, it says you may swap one weapon for one relic, then it is a point of contention.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I dont have the BA Codex on hand, but in your wargear list (the one with points costs) by the relics it should say "A character may swap ONE of their weapons for ONE of the following", that is if it matches up with the other 7th edition codexes. Which traditionaly limits you to a single relic per character.

Looks fine to me.

Valours Edge replaces a CCW*.
The Crown Angelic can be added no problem.
In fact why dont you add The Angels Wing instead of your jump pack, its perfectly legal.

*only 1 relic per army, which goes for all of them.

But what you are fielding is fine.

Though if I was you, I'd just have Dante, and a Priest, and maybe Astorath in a DC blob

I don't want to run a LoW every game and also this is a character I've had leading my blood angels army since the early 2000's when I first got into Warhammer 40k and chose blood angels as my first army.

I love Dante, and have the model, as well as his rules finally reflecting how awesome he is, but I want a lower point value character I can run as my HQ and enjoy building, converting, and painting.

It says in the entry (Have my codex in front of me now) that "Only one of each Relic of Baal may be taken per army. A model may replace one weapon with one of the following:" etc etc.

I was under the impression that each Relic replaced a weapon, so in theory one could replace the bolt pistol with the Crown Angelic, and the chain sword with the Valor's Edge, then if you wished you could give the Captain a storm shield as well. That may not be the case however, as it states "A model may replace one weapon with one of the following" meaning only one relic may be taken in total on the model.

At the very least, I could purchase the Crown Angelic, replacing the bolt pistol, give him a Relic Blade in place of the Chainsword, a jump pack, artificer armor, an Auspex (Since he has no ranged weapon, why not help the squad he's attached to) and then go ahead and spring for a Storm Shield while I'm at it since he can take one of those as well. Makes him a little more tanky at least with a 2+ and 3++ instead of the Iron Halo's 4++.

Thoughts to ponder. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I appreciate it.

Take it easy.

I believe it also says that the crown does not replace a weapon. Similar to the wings.

So you should be able to take both.

Where does it say that, Red Inquisition? Might you have a page number? I'd love to read this if you can share it please.

Thanks and hopefully I can find a way to run the character as I want to and have in the distant past.

Take it easy for now.

Footnotes are your friend.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

I will check tonight when I get home. But as noted above me I think it is a footnote on the page where the cost is listed.

If I am remembering correctly all the non weapon upgrades have the footnote that says they do not replace a weapon.

Normally on items that don't replace a weapon, after the name there is a superscript number, which generally below the list of relics tells you that the item does not reach a weapon

I have the digital codex, e-reader version, and I saw no foot note list where I was looking, in the relics of Baal wargear section. If someone would provide me a page number, I'd love to see if said footnote is in my digital edition.

Thanks for the replies and help everyone.

Take it easy.

It is under the Blood Angels Wargear List page, not the Relics of Baal page

As Shock_at said, the restrictions are detailed in the Wargear List page where the points are provided. The epub version doesn't show the footnote references as subscript notations, though, just numbers after the name.

Footnote 6 in this section, though, is the specific one about noting which are not replacing weapons.
