Alright. I'm a newer player, hoping to go to my first tournament soon.

I recently discovered WYSIWYG, and I got worried. I've been running an Overlord i got from a CCB barge box, not in the barge, but as a normal overlord. This means he can't reflect any of his fancy upgrades (Voidreaper, ect).

Can you use the overlord you get in the CCB box as a normal overlord, or do you actually have to buy an overlord to play it in a tournament?

Thanks,
Teo

If it was me, all lords and overlords look alike. That being said, if you can, discuss it with the organizers. If it's an issue, maybe a bit of plasticard or milliput will put things to rights.

So... Follow up question, if I want to give him a voidreaper, MSS or Gauntlet of Fire, and a Phase Shifter, do I need to model those or not?

yes and no

what is a MSS ? what is a phase shifter ? what is a phylactery ? Most non weapon things generally don't have to be modeled.
Voidreaper is a fancy warscythe and can be modeled to be a cool looking weapon or painted differently . Gauntlet of flame is hard since there is only one model that has an actual one (immotekh). So if you wanted to use them you would have to either not model it or get clever with kitbashing. id use a voidblades and cut the sides off..

in my experiance all a lord or tek needs is staff looking thing in one hand and either an orb or open hand and it can be said to have almost all upgrades in the codex

the lychguard box is great for anything you need to convert.

I wouldn't worry too much. The tag line is "In the far future there is only war", not "In the far future there is only a shocking lack of pockets".

For something like this, the key is differentiation in most cases. As an organizer, I care far more that it is VERY clear for your opponent "what's what" than that your Overlord's got all his gadgetry magnetized to his waist.

The bigger concern would be if you are running 2 Overlords with different equipment and they are indistinguishable from each other. If you have only one Overlord and his equipment is on the army list you've handed your opponent, he can't really complain or make a fuss about the fact that he couldn't be arsed to read the list and see what the *only* Overlord on the table was equipped with (and I doubt he has any idea what a Phylactery would look like from a modeling perspective anyway).
