I'm just starting a new army and decided to go with Chaos marines and the mark of Slaanesh. BUT, I am not use to 40k lore what so ever and still after 3 years of painting have no idea how to play the game... I just love painting 40k armies. My last ork army shows how inexperienced I am with the game, half of the units wouldn't make it through the rule book. So this time I'm looking to do it right with proper units and paint jobs. But, I'm not a fan of the pink/light purple most Slaanesh units have. I do however like the black and red look with glowing red eyes and lava styled armor. So my question to you is: Could I combine the look I want with the mark or Slaanesh, or does that not make any sense to the lore what so ever?

Thanks everyone,

Of course you can. You can always paint models however you want. The colors shown are primarily to give you examples. I mean, with a name like "blood angels", of course the original artists will paint them red, right? But you don't have to.

Best way I've heard it put: They're your models, paint them however you want. Your idea sounds cool, you should post some pictures when you do it.

Also, Orks that don't fit the rulebook? The race that rips armor off whatever the kill and keep the colors as a trophy? The race that makes weird guns by just believing it works? Nah, the rulebook doesn't fit Orks, man.

Yeah, this.

Enjoy painting your awesome models. /thread

It's actually said that no matter what the Warband they are with, Noise Marines always wear gaudy colors like pink and such. I ignored that and my Noise Marines are red and black like the rest of my Red Corsairs because I actually wanted to be happy when I used them. My Slanneshi Chosen and Terminators are going to be many colors. Salamanders, Imperial Fists, Novamarines, etc because they are traitors of the Imperium and still in their loyalist colors. Despite having Mark of Slannesh on them.

It doesn't matter if it makes sense in the lore, as long as you have them separated as a squad, it works. 40k allows you to paint anything in any color. They SHOULD be bright according to fluff, but that doesn't mean pink. Neon green or blue is also Slanneshi. And so is leopard print actually. And, if none of those tickle your fancy, you can also say they are just mutated internally to be faster and the Slannesh part is just a physical change inside them, not a Chaos God power granted to them.

Woaw, thanks for the fast help everyone! My army my rules...

I love air brushing so I'm planing on doing some airbrush work on my models as well, which is one of the main reasons I would like to paint lava styled armour. I'll definitely post them up on the forum when done. I need some gallery votes

Slaanesh is supposed to be about excess and gaudy colours, but every army seems to end up a bland palish pink. I would love to see slaaneshi units painted in different colours.

Still waiting for Godot.

My Emperor's Children army is bright orange with green accents. It looks awesome if I do say so myself and no one has ever batted an eye about it not being the "proper" colors.

Magma colors can be pretty fething gaudy and fit pretty well with noise marines. Also, who cares? No one can tell me that I painted the minis I bought with the paint I bought wrong. Nor should you let them do the same to you.

Personally, I like the fluff behind Slaanesh forces (particularly human ones) where their color schemes are garish and horrible to the eye for a normal person, but I don't think you have to go pink/purple. I don't personally see how a magma color scheme would pull that off, but it's your army, so do it how you like.

Slaanesh should be about bright colours and clashing pastels, not just pink.

I'm really saddened to see sooooo many black and pastel Slaaneshi marines. Gaudy and garish means all sorts of different colours and combinations. The fact that all Slaaneshi armies look the same at the moment is really bizarre to me. Too many people copying the 'official' paint scheme and not experimenting for their own army!

These are the sort of colour schemes that I think they should be:

That said, it's your army. Maybe your army is more coherent in regards to their armour and show their excess in other ways?

This screams Slanneshi to me. There's many other pictures of it zoomed in on the various armor bits. Garish is an understatement.

My Slaaneshi traitor guard wear fiery orange armor with pale blue and dark, purplish blue uniforms. Pink and purple are far from necessary for a Slaaneshi color scheme. Ultimately, you can do what you want, but to me, the big thing for Slaanesh is EYE-CATCHING. Whether it's gaudy, bright colors, or rich, lavish looking material, they dress to make an impression. It could as easily be classy and elegant as gaudy.

So I'd say just about anything except earth tones.

40k is 111% science.

IMO, go with the original Emperor's Children colors. The metallic purple and vibrant gold both serve the roles of being gaudy, royal, eye catching, yet not an assault on the eyes like an Imperial Fist army.

When painting Slaanesh, call up ye olde colour wheel, and do everything that good sense and taste tells you not to do!

Stop associating Slaanesh and fists. It makes me uncomfortable .

They dress in horrendously garish colors and are masochists. They're clearly closet Slaaneshi cultists.

But really, their colors are horrible. They look like an army of New York Taxi transformers. Mustard is bad enough, but when you realize they use codex trim markings... yellow and purple. Who the hell came up with that idea? Plus field them with Blood Angels and you've got Ketchup and Mustard Marines. Add conscripts and you've got a hotdog.

According to the fluff, the Noise Marines' sensed have been so dulled by 10,000+ years of excess that only the most clashing and garish colours register on their retina.

Same with sound apparently, hence the sonic weaponry.

So any colours as long as it's horrific to look at lol

As another alternative:

Mobile means you get the full page, not a tidy image link... But, these Kakophoni Squads are what use and they look amazing in darker colors, and are still obviously as Noise Marine as they get.

That was a joke. A very bad taste joke. That I guess I only thought of because I am French, and around here we use the untranslated word fist instead of the translated version only in a very specific context .

I'll admit it. I laughed.

That was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen, and yet somehow, I cannot quite identify why.
