I managed to obtain 39 path finders after purchasing many things of bits and originally buying 2 boxes worth. I've got about 10 converted pathfinders, 9 metal ones, and 20 plastic ones. 6 have rail rifles, 6 have ion rifles.

So, does anyone here have advice for a extremely path finder heavy list that actually works while not going unbound?

Don't Devilfish hold 12 infantry? Split them into 3 squads of 12 and put as many ion cannons and rail rifles in each one. Throw them in Devilfish. Might be fun.

I'm genuinely unsure about that one. I have a buddy who runs something like 20 at 2000 points, and I mean there already is a crazy amount of markerlights. I genuinely feel like twice that amount is a bit overkill, because you'll probably be wasting markerlights (what is it, 2 for ignores cover, then give your guys BS 8 or something crazy?).

I'd wait until the new codex comes out in a month or 2, there'll probably be a formation you can put most of them into

- Try to get 3 CADs (3 HQs, 6 Troops). 3 Pathfinders will be left alone, but what can we do.
- Separate the Pathfinders in 9 groups (filling your fast attack choices).
- Give Rail Rifles to 5 groups (15 total).
- Give Ion Rifles to 4 groups (12 total).
- Outflank them all (be sure to have Positional Relay-equipped suits near the edges).
- Have fun!

I got a buddy that uses pathfinders as actual combat units. Some people forget that they have guns along with markerlights.

MSU Pathfinders is actually a pretty good idea, and I've heard it suggested you should run 2x CAD in order to pack as many small squads as possible into your list.

The idea is that, while the nature of Tau buffs discourages them from running an MSU list in general, Pathfinders are the ones giving the buffs, not receiving them. So they can and should be spread out as much as possible, preferably in 5-person squads. Then use minimum-size units of outflanking Kroot for the majority of your Troops choices (or Crisis Suits if you're playing Farsight).

... 39 Pathfinders is a little excessive even for that, though. Unless you're planning to play Apocalypse. I'd use the metal ones in a diorama of some kind. Or you could mail me the extras Or give them to a player in your group who's starting Tau!

Well, those non-markerlight guys could be dedicated Zone Mortalis or Kill Team units.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Squad of 11 with Darkstrider, max out on rail rifles.

Have fun ID'ing anything with T4 or lower, while never getting stuck in combat.
