I'm sure most of you interested in them have found some leak or another regarding the new DA, or a few already have your codex. From what it looks like, using any of the formations or detachments won't allow you to take ravenwing black knights or command squads, outside of the ravenwing one or a classic CAD? Am I reading this right?

The demi-company only lists ravenwing bike squads as an option, not black knights, and there's no mention of the command squad either. The entry for command squad no longer says anything about being allowed to run them if you have a bike HQ, too.

So is it then that I can't run any of the formations if I want black knights, and that the only way to access them is a ravenwing strike force?

Give it a few days as GW gets bombarded with questions about this and what the other two+ Ravenwing HQ options are supposed to be, as you can have up to three in a Ravenwing Strike force but the only two options are Samael on Corvex and Sableclaw (also Samael, and thus exclusionary)

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Hard to say for certain without actually having the full codex out yet. Best to wait and see.

From what is known, there aren't any black knight formations.

Command squads are an elites choice now, no free slots.

RWSF allows up to 10 BK squads and 1 command squad. That or a CAD. I don't feel that it's the restricting on us. The only drawback is you can't get them in the lion's blade, but that's not a big deal to me, personally.

Yes Black Knights aren't in the Lion's blade detachment. No that has no baring on whether you can use a Lion's blade and black knights in the same army or indeed any of the other formations along side Black Knights.

Well, got my copy of the codex, and now it turns out we can only run the RWSF if we have Sammael, as he's the only HQ with the Ravenwing special rule... looks like I'll be using CAD instead of the new formations...

The Rave wing/Sammael thing was true last codex however there are 3 HQ slots available to the RW Strike Force so it seems likely that you're supposed to be able to take any character on a bike in the detachment.

Also if you're not using the new formations and detachments you're going to have a weaker army. The choice is of course yours.

Yeah, you're probably "supposed to" be able to take a biker librarian as your HQ, but in terms of RAW Sammael is the only one allowed, as the other bike HQs don't have the Ravenwing special rule.

Yes RaW is frequently wrong. No one plays pure RaW though do they?

Rai is so obvious here it hurts, so raw has no place.

However it being a raw forum, it's currently not supported by the rules.

I already had a player tell me they wouldn't let me play the strike force without Sammy sooooo....

He's coming from a place within the rules, don't hold it against him.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I wouldn't play anyone with that attitude when it's so clear what RAI is. That's said, just proxy a regular bike for Sammy.

So, don't play him.

What does he take in it? Because there's always silly RaW that breaks the game no matter what army you take.
