I played a game last night at a 40k group I recently joined. It was 750 point level and a Maelstrom mission Spoils of War on a 4x6 table.

I had my basic Combined Arms Detachment Space Wolves for this pickup game.
Rune Priest
10 GH in a Rhino
15 Blood Claws
Landspeeder w/ HB & ML
Vindi
dakka Pred

The Inquisition (Combined Arms Detachment?) I went up against had:
mixed unit of Elites "Death Star One" w/ Heavy Weapons & Named Character plus another Psyker. About 7 models.
mixed units of Elites "Death Star Two" in a Scouting Chimera. About 10 models.

Then the game started I started loosing units to re-rolling Ordinance and proceeded to get tabled. We ended 11 VP to 4 VP. The Inquisition characters ran away from all of my challenges.

I remember the Inquisition: Battle Hyms, making my INIT 1 & Toughness -1 alot. Also remember they buffed with re-rolling failed armor/Invul saves ALOT through shenanigans. They also had lots of Storm Shields. His Named Character was shooting Ordinance and re-rolling them like crazy. That Named Character killed my Pred, Vindi, Rhino and 4 Grey Hunters.

I made a few mistakes by placing my Vindi and Blood Claws in Reserve. Tactically the game was here nor there, it was just a matter of not dying to AP 2 Ordinance every turn. It did not feel like a "tactical" game. I tried a fancy flanking maneuver against Death Star Two and pincer between Grey Hunters Rapid Firing and Blood Claws pack but he moved away from it all. I should of just steam-rolled Death Star Two and shoot everything into it.

Vindicator did manage to come into the battle from reserves and kill one of his Storm Shield guys after making 4x re-rolling Invul saves beforehand. I managed to kill about 4 or 5 of his models total after the game tally. My fancy flanking maneuver was wholly not even needed and cost me dearly. The Inquisition just walked forward every turn, eventually claiming Linebreaker as well as First Blood and Slay the Warlord.

I don't follow. Mixed units? I'm assuming that you mean mixed models.

The -1 toughness came from Rad grenades. Making your INIT 1... hmm. The grenades that do will only work against your psycher, not any of your other models.

The named character - Inquisitor Karamazov, sitting on his fancy throne of judgement - can call in an orbital strike each turn. He's got a choice of 3 different types, 2 of which are:
D3 ordnance (large blast). However, it's s6 AP4. Not AP 2.
S10, AP1, lance attack. However, it's Heavy, not ordnance. It's also a small blast.

He gets a warlord trait that allows him to fire a S10, AP1, large blast ordnance. Once per game.

In all of those cases, though, it's horribly inaccurate (he doesn't reduce the scatter by his ballistic skill). The only exception (for 2 of the 3) is when the target is in close combat with one of your units, in which case it would mince both. I'm surprised he did so much damage.

The inquisition has two different ways to re-roll saves:
Rolling "Precognition". It targets the psycher, so will only allow those storm shield guys to re-roll saves through a creative (but technically RAW) interpretation of "psycher".
Battle Hymns. The priest would have had to pass an LD check (LD 7)... and it only works in the assault phase. So, it couldn't have been that.

If you did have any specifics on the Inquisition forces we might be able to say if he did something wrong.
For instance i don't think there is any ordnance in thei codex except the orbital bombardment and that is usable only once.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Crusaders (shield Guys) aren't Psykers. You only get to reroll save with them in Melee and that with a Priest.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Thanks for the feedback. It was tough to check every one of the rules they had, there was no Codex to refer to. It was my first encounter with Inquisition.

I am surprised there were so many mis-interpretations of RAW, my opponent was playing his army for years.

That may be the issue - many players simply play what they think are the rules or were the rules in previous editions and don't check on changes - happens as much with Tournament as much as casual players - the former can, in my experience be more insistant that "theri" rules are right........

I have done it myself and been shocke when we checked and its changed. We do now try to be dsicplined about checking stuff and most importantly having a copy of the relevant codex / rules to hand.
