So, I recently picked up x-wing and absolutely love it

Up to now I have the core set, x-wing, tie fighter and 2x a-wings. Played my first games today against a list of interceptor (turr something?) and 2 phantoms (whisper and echo) and got tabled both times

What I'm after is c&c on my first list to see if it can be improved with what I currently own and also some advice on what to get next (on a tight budget)

So, here's what I took:

Biggs with R2F2
Garven Dreiss
Green squadron pilot with concussion missiles
Green squadron pilot with concussion missiles

Plan was to use the a-wings to alpha strike with their missiles then follow up with the x-wings. Biggs takes hits for Dreiss with increased agility from R2F2 while Dreiss focuses his shots at PS6 then passes his token so Biggs can focus his shots at PS5. Obviously this didn't work

Over to you dakka. How can I do better with what I've got and what do I buy next...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

I would strongly recommend that you get the Rebel Aces pack. It comes with Chardaan refit, which allows you to run A-wings for 15 points. You'll also get Keyan Falander, who is one of the better Rebel Pilots. Also tracking down Engine Upgrades (available in the Falcon) for your characters would be goos, but not essential. The falcons turrets will also help vs your opponent.

As for what you have now, here's my advice:

1) Make sure your opponents using the Phantom Errata- it changes the timing off some stuff, making them a lot more manageable.

2) Try Running Luke with R2-D2 and PTL. This would be a better "Main" Ship.

3) Don't waste points on Missiles, they are overcosted.

Phantoms get eaten by things with high PS, since they can't rely on arc-dodging or advanced cloak to keep alive.

Vet instincts on any 8-9 PS pilot'll do fine.

Also, bombs are fun.

Perhaps not technically a Marine Chapter anymore, but the Flame Falcons would be pretty creepy to fight.

"Right. Well, did you at least use the burnas?"

"We tried, but the gits was already on fire."

First thing to buy would be rebel aces. It would help you immensely as it focuses on giving the A Wing more tricks and a b wing, which is a dependable heavy fighter.

Here's what I would try for time being though

Biggs R2F2

Wedge R2D2 Swarm Tactics

Tycho Celchu Cluster Missiles, PTL

Two PS 9 Xwings ain't something to sneeze at, and the A Wing will be a good arc dodger.

Once you get a rebel ace pack, you can run 3 chaardan refit A's for 45pts, where it really shines as cheap support, or a pair of test pilot green squadrons with PTL and some other skill. Then you could either runs named X or two or throw in the B wing with an X.
