Has anyone here built one of the FW Cerastus-chassis Knights? Either the Acheron, Lancer, or Castigator. I've heard that they're fully poseable, as opposed to the GW Knights which are monopose. The parts look like they support a fully-poseable build, too. How poseable are they, and how hard is it to get them to hold more dynamic poses (in terms of weight-distribution and pinning needed).

They are very posable.

I found superglue was enough to keep them in place, no pinning required.

Very posable. The belt fed ammo and the fuel hoses on the Castigator and Acheron make their arms fairly fixed pose. It's surprising what a hair dryer can do to loosen things up though.

Sweet, thanks!

I'm curious, is it also difficult to magnetize the weapon/gear mounts on the arms? I'm hoping to get a Knight Castigator and magnetize it so that I can alternatively equip it as a Knight Lancer (or vice versa, spare bits either coming off of eBay or custom-built)

I have pin and mag my Knights, though if I were to do it again, I do couple areas differently and use magnets with hole in them so I can add a long pin to help, as the resin gets quite heavy, regular magnets will not do by themselves. Also FW is making a pilot for their Knights, I believe from the image it's modeled onto the seat, so I would advise you wait for that; or use taurox gunner as a substitute.

Yeah a friend of mine has 2 castigators, posed quite differently. Also, he says it's actually easier to build than IK.

The packaging of the bits certainly looks a heck lot easier to build than the IK. I'm starting to think that my time spent assembling all the nitty-gritty parts (And then magnetizing them) would be worth the difference in cost to get Cerastus Knights.

(Or I'm just trying to justify a FW purchase... lol)

If you count prep time and everything, the IK is far easier. I can build an IK in about the same time it takes just to clean and prep the cerastus.

I've always felt like I had an easier time cleaning and prepping FW models compared to GW models. On average, there doesn't seem to be as many mould lines (or they're positioned well) on the FW ones. I'll let you know how my Castigator fares in terms of time versus my IK!

It depends on the kit, official FW kits require time to wash the resin residue, clean lots of flashing after carefully distinquish what is flash and what is actually a part, fill in resin bubbles with green stuff; recasts require time to distinquish how to build base on imagery on the web available, very bad recasts require extensive mold line cleaning, green stuff minor damages.

Old plastic kits like the ork battle wagon for instance took me a few sessions over 3-4 days to clean all the mold lines, and smart assembly= magnet work, pinning, avoiding under cuts for painting) it; newer plastic kits like the knight takes a session or two in one day, mold lines are almost none existent.

Positioning of mold lines is everything :X

Sometimes, I wonder what sadist figures out where mold lines go.
