Being fairly new to 40K, especially the fluff, I've just read Horus Rising, and in doing so discovered the existence of some of the more obscure xenos races such as the 'megarachnids'. Just out of curiosity, are there any currently existing similarly obscure races in M41, or are they all eradicated? From what I know, all of the non-Imperial human civilizations had been wiped out or forced into submission during the Great Crusade, but I would imagine that there are more than just the usual xenos breeds out in the universe.

There were thousands of different xenos species at the time of the Great Crusade and there are thousands more in M41. Never ever believe that major races are all there is in 40k. Whole sectors are terrorized by xenos you've never heard of. Vast stretches of space have either never been explored or explored so long ago and forgotten that a new race has established themselves. From the Rak'gol, to the Hrud, to the Tarellians, to the Umbra, to the dozen different species that maintain worlds under Tau protectorate. The galaxy is a big, BIG place and the amount of space available for other races to raise up and form a small empire right in the midst of the Imperium is staggering.

As an aside, no, there are still many more human worlds out there to be discovered, or which have been lost previously.

as I understand it though rak'gol are the invention of FFG, so I doubt GW'd do em. too many likely legal complications.

I'd be tempted to drop both my armies to get them...but I love Orks, so maybe just ditch the CSM and go for them :p

Given how draconian GW is with their IP I doubt they would issue a license without it including a clause saying saying all additions belong to them. There's certainly the canon precedent of the Blood Ravens which were created for Dawn of War but have made it into some of the marine codices and Imperial Armour.

They're still just Tyranids with guns. There's not much to be done with them.
