I'm looking to invest back into warhammer but its been a long while so consider me new again. I want to build an ork army that consists of all vehicles, no troops on the ground at the start at least.
Looking at lots of trukks and anything mobile with wheels. Convert anything that isn't on the back of a moving vehicle to at least look like it is, even if it moves like a snail in game.

I suppose asking if its possible when it comes to orks would be foolish so I'll ask whats the best way of doing it. Ive never played orks before.

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Maybe a forgeworld dread mob (you can get the rules from their website). You can even take a vehicle HQ, or a transport option for your HQ.

There's a 5 battlewagon formation which might be a good place to start. They can take rokkits and killkannons and have scout when in this formation. Blitz brigade, I think. Bikes are really good too and most infantry can take transports, but you'll have a tough time playing zero boots-on-ground.

Blitz Brigade is 5 battlewagons which can carry up to 100 orks. I run a 5 battlewagon and 3 dakkajet 2000 point list which is rather difficult to handle unless your a dirty elder player. Blitz Brigade can be cut down to 1500 points but it works better at 1750+ points.

Dread Mob (the forgeworld rule set or the formation in 7th edtion) is an option which can allow for all Walker lists.

You can also go trukk spam which is just taking a trukk transport with every ork unit but trukks are made of tissue paper and full of explodium so they end up killing a lot of boyz before they can get stuck in. In smaller points games you can just bring enough heavy support battlewagons to carry your boyz.

Outside of transports there are lots of forgeworld rules for numerous ork vehicles (google dread mob rules for the free PDF file forgeworld put out for it). Can scratch build a lot of them with a bit of skill, determination, and creativity.

Biker lists are a viable but not technically a "vehicle" as they count as infantry (sci fi version of cavalry basically).

7000+ Points Death Skullz
4000 Points

3500 Points "Void Kraken" Space Marines
3000 Points "Bard's Booze Cruise"

Having skimmed the Dread mob list it shows a lot of promise.
Having tissue paper transports is a worry as I had intended to have all my troops riding transports. Whilst its still amusing having everything explode they need to survive long enough to be worth the cost put into them.

and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son,

Explodey transports? 'Eavy armour mitigates your losses. Also, always have so many that losing 1 or 2 in the first round doesn't matter, or give your opponent other things to shoot ;D

Blitz Brigade (5 Battle Wagons with a scout move, part of the formation bonus) is really pretty nasty. It is hard to deal with. A wall of AV 14 scouted up the table. At least 3 wagons are going to get close enough for you to assault the orks out of them. I have run this with 2 mobs of 20 orks taking up 2 wagons, 1 wagon filled with meganobs, 1 wagon filled with tank bustas and KFF mek, and the last one filled with Lootas. The 2 "shooty" wagons take the center of the table (no problem since they have scout. The other 3 wagons forge ahead and dump the contents into the enemy. The shooty stuff can open up most tanks so the assaulting stuff has something to go after.

Maelstrom missions can be a bit pesky since you are spending everything basically just crashing the lines of the enemy.

My first 40k army was a speed freaks force waaay back in the day when Gorka Morka was a thing. Anyway, I became reinterested in the Orks with the Forgeworld IA 8 list. All the customizable vehicles and the entertaining conversion projects that went along with it were two of the main incentives. I even purchased my first forgeworld model in all my years of gaming (the Grot Mega Tank). Anyways, the point of this rambling is to say that an vehicle Ork army can be superbly devastating. The amount of dakka that grot tanks, gun trukks, etc. can bring to the table for their points is just madness. On the other hand, they are frail enough that they explode regularly and have never failed to make the game fun for myself and my opponent, which is really the main point. Plus, I find that most people have no objection to playing against them because of their low BS and armor, unlike many other forgeworld armies - although the culture is changing.

Allying in artillery from the codex for cheap support while you advance is another way to enhance the list, providing super cheap anti-tank (cannons at less than 20pnts a piece) with bs 4 or, of course, the anti-air firepower if you aren't taking any planes is also something to consider.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love

I have been running an ork list with no infantry on the ground to start. Well unless you count bikes, but they are alittle tougher and can jink and are much faster.

Either way you just need 3 battlewagons, 2 trukks, some warbuggies for outflanking rokkits and a plane.

When you tell someone you are going to be playing orks, they wont expect to have to bring an answer to 3 AV14 vehicles.

Mek Mob is probably your best bet but also going with a grot tank army would be cool.

So it seems getting some battlewagons and boys to start would be a good choice. 3 seems to be a good choice to start with.

u know how you start a vehicle army for orks? you go down to the local toy store and start buiyng any truck, semi, or tank that would look orky after a few alterations.

warbuggies in mass are good.

dreddmob vehicles can often be taken in squadrons and thus a great choice. (besides checking out the dreddmob update aslo check out IA8, which has some more vehicles the dreddmob update neglected to include), if your worried about hullpoints then there is a FORGE WORLD IMPERIAL ARMOUR SIXTH EDITION VEHICLE UPDATE document out there that will have the hull points listed for all their stuff including all their ork vehicles).

ork trucks may be made of squig paper and filled with explodium, but dont forget they are only in danger if your opponent decides to attack them. if you have a bunch of trucks then he/she can only target a few before the rest get to him, or if you have your trukks rideing along other more dangerous units then he/she has to decide to take out the boyz that can touch him turn 2 or the battlewagons with meganobs that will hit him turn 3) either way its fun to watch them squirm with uncertainty.

also try out the fw warkoptas. fast skimmer 10man transports that can jink is far better and more survaivable than trukks at only twice the cost (also can get them in squadrons of 3).

mek junkas, while not my favorite vehicle are available in the elites slot, so if you dont have the slots in fast or heavy, then these guyz can help supplement you vehicle list.
