I don't play warhammer anymore because its so expensive so I have the video game. But I find the game so difficult to play. I just tried playing a game and as the enemy was shooting all my units and running past them to destroy my buildings, all of my units just stood there, didn't shoot or anything. And I will have units selected and then when I click for them to attack the enemy, they either just move to that position and do nothing or just don't move and do nothing. Doesn't help also that I suck at rts games but I don't understand how you can just stand there and get shot at and be like, well i guess this is just the will of the dark gods. *shrug

Sounds like you may have lag or mouse issues. I have a good 2,000 hours on the Dawn of War II series, and I have never experienced what you describe.

Can you explain in greater detail what you do and what happens?

It can be a little glitch with fighting stuff, but I've only had to right click on it a second time to be good. DoW does have some weird times though where your guys font auto retaliate.

I mean it's exactly like I said the enemy will be shooting my units and they will just stand there and not react. Or worse I will select my units and then hover over an enemy and click to attack and they just stand there and do nothing. This can't be lag because i am playing against AI

I want to get good with Chaos and I am a complete noob with this game. I think the Lord might be best but so far my strategy has been to just use lots of cultists and then spam bloodcrushers asap. I only play against normal difficultly computer

Be warned that computer strategy is not awfully indicative of players - the computer completely lacks combat skills and compensates by spamming units and capturing everything everywhere all the time.

As far as I know your units automatically fire on enemies who enter weapons range, so if they don't there is definitely something odd, but I can't comment as I have never observed it.

If it is an RTS game check to see if you have them on "no fire/attack" mode or not.

RTS games used to have (still do?) "stances" like aggressive, defensive, passive and so on. Many games have a stance that means the units will not react when attacked etc. You may have accidentally set your units to this stance.

I do not think DoW2 has the option to turn off autofire.

But then, there is never any reason to do so, so I have not checked thoroughly.

There usually is, it's especially useful if 2 enemies get into a fight near any defenses you have and you want them to fight each other as long as possible before you get involved.

It could be a really simple fix.

Free-for-all was not in the game until the first expansion, so perhaps there was no reason.

I don't plan on fighting human opponents as I am terrible lol

I also hate where sometimes my units will auto attack and then i find out they followed the enemy all the way back to their base and gets killed by turrets :(

Hang on, I thought you said your units don't auto-attack, and that's why you were having problems.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

And only melee units follow enemies when autoattacking (and even then, it's only a short range). Ranged units don't. This does sound awfully odd.

I am not what I was - I used to do tournaments and stuff, but after so much WoW my RTS skills have decayed.

Gone are the glory days of my CSM blob grinding everything to dust. Good times. :')

I still actively mod DoWII, though. Better with mods in my opinion.

Huh? That sounds like a completly new bug to me, I have never experienced that. But I would check if you have set your troops to mele attack instead of range or somethink like that.

Sounds like your units are either set to melee or passive by default. check their settings in the lower right, and see what your buildings are set to create.

Also as a general rule of thumb, never directly tell your units to target something unless you're launching a full attack. Have them go into cover, set up a turret if they're guardsmen, and back them up with a heavy weapon squad to frag anything that looks at you funny.

That said, once you are in a good position (or you are pursuing) be sure to actively target and focus fire.
