Hey everyone,

So simple enough, the last time I played 40k or even really looked at the game was the very beginning of 6th Edition. Obviously, the game has undergone an edition change and a bit of a remodel it seems since then.

Because of that, I'm a tad lost since I'm looking to hop back in. I still have an old Imperial Guard army, but that looks to have been rebranded.

Can anyone help me out and highlight a couple differences I should be aware of in the game/community since I left?

Thanks a ton!

Formations are the new trend, take a good look at them.
Look into "Decurion" with the Necrons.

Armies are expected to run with allies now, some armies are not viable on their own.

The complexity of army selection is impressive, formations are making it easier but GW is trying to bundle rules with a model purchase so it is smelling of pay to win a bit.

Look into it and make your own decisions.
We tend to refer to your army now as IG/AM.

If you were hoping for balance, I hate to disappoint you. The newest releases have been far above anything recently on the power scale. Ranged D is now appearing on tables. So, your IG will be outclassed...except by nids and CSM.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

Maelstorm is a thing. You need to controle the board. It makes things like rough riders, ratlings and scout sentinels quite good in practice. Gunlining is not gona work now.
