My local games store is a Games Workshop, there are other clubs about but 2/3 you need to be 18 to go to so i can't go yet and the third is on a bad day for me. So I play at a GW, it's great an all, great tables and lots of space, not complaining about that at all, but i'm worried that i would be unwelcome to play 8th games instead of the new AoS. The manager is nice and he will probably let it slide for a while, but soon i feel it will go the way of Blood Bowl, Dread Fleet and Mordheim. As in, we won't be able to play those except on Game Nights. Do you think they will shove this new AOS down our throats or will they let us ease into it at our own pace?

My local GW manager has already decreed no to 8th come the 11th... He is a noobie though so maybe playing close to the book whereas more experienced/confident managers would let it go for a bit...? But yeah my local is a big no to 8th already! :(

That's just crazy! While I've never had a GW nearby, all game shops I've ever been to have always been "play what you want"

I would understand a GW store limiting games to GW only, but to actually limit to what's out now only. I think I'm glad my only choice wasn't a GW. Then again, there's always a friend's house.

We're gonna need another Timmy!

If GW are not selling WHFB any more I doubt they will be keen to support playing it.

However you will be able to use your WHFB models with AOS.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

With my GW, the thing that he's not cool with is people playing with models he doesn't sell. That also means he's a bit iffy on FW, unless it's like a pre-organised Apocalypse/Storm of Magic game where obviously people bring a lot of that kind of stuff.

So, whilst I haven't actually asked him, I feel that he might let 8th edition games go ahead, considering that they use models that are sold in the store and models that can be used with the current edition.

But are you saying that GW will let you play anything (well, anything GW, such as Blood Bowl) on games nights anyway? Since that's pretty much the only time (aside from the odd multi-person game on a Saturday) that I'd go and play at my GW.

There are a few GW stores that allow older games (blood bowl in Manchester), though maybe they don't anymore.

There's no reason at all to allow older versions of the game, the focus is on stuff they currently sell (free rules regardless) not on no longer stocked products. You might find a manager allows a little leeway but as the rules are available for free it's not like they're waiting on payday to pick up the new rules

Would they let you play 7th right now? The answer is probably the same.

I'm sure at launch there will be a push to promote the new game and then after that fails they'll be happy just to have players and customers.

pfff. the last time I was in a GW i was shunned for playing BFG and Epic. This was while they still "supported" those games.

Seeing how they have withdrawn armybooks from their offer... I believe they won't.

I mean, they probably won't tell you to scram if you come to play their game with their miniatures that you invested lots of money and time in, but probably will discourage you.

no problem at my local GW... I do believe that they will be trying to mix 8th with AoS in the long run as to focus on AoS but he said there is no problem playing larger battles using old school 8th rules...

I've heard from more than one person their local GW won't let them play 8th.

While some managers may be cool the company line will be push AoS hard so out of fear of being sacked or sanctioned they'll stop you playing 8th.

They don't let you play earlier editions, so I doubt it.
