Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

I have some fantasy models that I want to display.
I've seen lots of buildings I could buy to place them in front of, but I was hoping for a book-shelf type setup, not much deeper than the street and a row of fronts.
After that, maybe a forest or village, and a sewer or tunnels.

Does anyone sell kits for this kind or thing?
Or, is it just easier to scratchbuild the street/path/stream, and building-fronts?
I've seen wooden cobbles-rollers, and other probable tools, but I'm useless at making that kind of thing look good.

These are 28-30mm models, mostly Discworld from Micro Art, but maybe with some generic stuff added.

You might want to look into some model railway stuff; you can get textured plasticard in brick/cobble/other patterns that would give you bases to work from for building the fronts and street.

I was thinking that myself, there is all kinds of polystyrene sheet and then you can gravel appropriately.
You could also just print out a suitable picture as a scenery backdrop, just make it a bit like a fishtank diorama.

Background pictures:

Polystyrene:

Hope these give some ideas.

Yep. You wanna head down to your local tiny locomotive store and look for some of these textured sheets. Or equivalent, other brands are available, etc.

Alternatively, have a look at http://www.sarissa-precision.com, as their Victorian buildings come with bits of street at the front. You can also email and ask if they will do you some loose panels.

(P.s. if you are a fan of Discworld and have money to burn, allow me to tease with this: http://www.tabletop-world.com/coachingInn.php ...some of the best full scenery for that theme I've ever handled)

This is just the kind of thing I was looking for:
http://www.kobblestone.ca/
http://www.kobblestone.ca/catalogue/bookcase-displays/index.htm
I'd have to wait for the USD to crash before placing an order though :(

That coaching inn would be great in the centre, with models to either side.

I might just have to try my hand at polystyrene sheet and balsa.

I'll see what sarissa-precision can do later on.

For sewers, I came across these:

Can't recommend Ainsty enough. If you have any "I wish..." configurations or questions about those, email Andy and he'll put a set together for you. Top fella, really looks after the community.

people have had a lot of luck with the texture of cork.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBEgZc8LRN4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxbxsB29aQo

those videos just show a mini-base, but if you get a whole sheet of cork you can get a similar effect.
