OK kids so I have a question .
With the new Marine dex we can now field up to 3 Whirlwinds, Preds, Drews as one FOC choice. My question. Is do said vehicles make a squad or can they operate as individuals once they deploy? I was playing in a tournament last weekend and they said my three Whirlwinds as one heavy support had to shoot the same target since they were a squadron.

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.

The tournament was correct. They are a squadron, and thus must shoot the same target.

The SM codex lets you take tanks in Vehicle Squadrons (which is a single unit, albeit with a larger coherency allowance), but they are different to things like Imperial Guard Platoons (which is a single FOC choice containing several separate units).

Usually, each FOC choice is a single entity, made up of multiple models, whether a unit or squadron.
So, those 3 Whirlwinds will make mincemeat of a target, but only the 1 target.
Look at the formation or codex entry for 1 unit/squadron of xxxx, or 1+ of xxxx.
It is the same as IG and others have done for a long time.

Which leads to, when does the Multiple Barrage rule come in?
If the squadron fires a barrage shot per model, don't the 2nd and 3rd shots arrange around the first?

Speaking as a Wyvern user, yep.

Although, I think GW needs to bring back the old Thudd Gun template and use that (along with the Apocalypse barrage template) to resolve multiple barrages.
