So I will be making my own DA flavored Masters of the Chapter soon. The ones GW makes are to plain for me. The Master of the 7th company is also the master of the fleet. GW's model gives him a TH to show how much power he can bring to a target.
So:
Should I make him with 2 THs and no gun looking more BA than normal
OR
1 TH and 1 gun and be able to shoot something
Game wise I know I would only get 2x strangth bonus for one but a +1 attack for 2 unweildy weapons.
Thanks

Why not a thunder hammer and a lightning claw as they are both specialist weapons which is what you get the bonus for not unweildly and have differant uses making your character more versatile.

This. Plus it's cheaper pointswise.

TH and lighting claw seems a bit odd if you ask me. it's good mechanicly, but it's not something we see very often if at all in the lore etc. so I'd shy away from it myself, and maybe go with a Thunderhammer and storm sheild?

There's a lot of optimal tabletop builds that don't get featured in the fluff. Why aren't there any epic tales of Tiggy leading a squad of grav centurions to victory against a monstrous creature?

yeah and frankly I'm not a biiig fan of that. it's part of why I kind of like the formations approuch GW's taking, the optimal formations are now finally beginning to be the fluffy ones

It's ok to build models on the optimal tabletop build, but it means you have to look at the model for the rest of its life. It takes a lot of time to build a model. I'm not going to do something that looks stupid. Plus, what happens when eighth edition rolls around and the rules change to that combo being bad? Then you have an ugly model that is too weak to play.
Power fist on bike? How does it hit anyone when the bike is in the way? The weapon is too short, it makes the model look like a chode. I have other stuff to do than do 6 hours of highlights on a model that looks dumb.

When in doubt, magnetize. Personally, I think TH/LC looks pretty cool, did that for my jump captain. There is something visually nice about paired weapons, but mechanically you are better off mixing.

Then you chop it up and give the guy different weapons. It's really not hard to remodel an existing piece, unless you coated it in 2 ounces of plastic glue or something.
