Hey all. I. Trying to decide which list would be most competitive for an upcoming 2000pt tournament later this year. All of the. Will be making use of the Ultramarines doctrine, and I would really not prefer to go double Skyhammer - though I might be able to be talked into some multi meltas, if there is a super compelling reason. Sadly, the Centurions are built with the missile launchers, and I can't see a way to make them look like good hurricane Bo,tears, seeing as they are plastic glued in. How was I to know Tigurius would get to give a squad rending per turn? D:

List 1:
Spoiler:

Skyhammer:

Assault Squad: 9 models, veteran sergeant with power axe and melta bomb, 2 flamers
Assault Squad: 9 models, veteran sergeant with power axe and melta bomb, 2 flamers

Devastator Squad: 10 models, 4x Grav Cannons, Combi Grav on sergeant, Drop Pod
Devastator Squad: 10 models. 4x Grav Cannons, Combi Grav on Sergeant, Drop Pod

CAD

Tigurius

Scout Squad: Ccw and pistols, sergeant has melta bomb
Scout Squad: Sniper Rifles

Drop Pod
Stormtalon: Skyhammer Launcher
Stormtalon: Skyhammer Launcher

Centurion Squad: 3x GravCannon, 3x Missile Launchers
Thunderfire Cannon

Inquisition:

Inquisitor: 3 servo skulls

List 1 requires me to spend no cash. The assault squads are rather beefy, thus the Inquisitor is there to ensure they get close enough to assault. i'll either drop turn 2 with the Skyhammer, and drop the centurions into cover/drop the pod empty, or, if my opponent is on the field, or plays an army where me dropping first turn (and, If admech, going first) would be advantageous. The Stormtalons contribute to the first turn denial, and will provide some a it infantry and air support when compared to the Grav weaponry. The inquisitor will probably hide with the thunderfire Cannon out of line of sight somewhere, bravely making suggestions to the gunner, or something.

List 2:

Spoiler:

Skyhammer:

Assault Squad: 9 men, veteran sergeant with power axe, melta bomb, squad has 2 flamers
Assault Squad: 9 men, veteran sergeant with power axe, melta bomb, squad has 2 flamers

Devastator Squad: 10 men, 4x Grav Cannon, sergeant has combi grav, Drop Pod
Devastator Squad: 10 men, 4x Grav Cannon, sergeant has combi Grav, Drop Pod
CAD:

Tigurius

Scout Squad: Sniper Rifles
Scout Squad: CCW and pistols

Drop Pod
Drop Pod

Centurions: 3x Grav Cannins, 3x Missile Launchers, Sergeant with Omniscope
Thunderfire Cannon: 3x Thunderfire Cannons

Inquisition:

Inquisitor: 3 servo skulls

List two drops the Stormtalons and the scouts melta bombs to add a backup pod and two more Thunderfire Cannons. Tigurius may choose to stay here instead of going with the Centurions, and cackle maniacally as he gives the you it the power to drop 12 rending blast templates. Even if he goes with the centurions, there are still 12 blast templates capable of shredding practically any infantry in the game. The second pod drops empty on an objective if I want to delay the centurions a turn to better line up with the Skyhammer. I am better able to choose whether I want to come in turn one or two with the Grav hammer.

List 3:

Spoiler:

Skyhammer:

Assault Squad: 5 men.
Assault Squad: 5 men

Devastator Centurion: 10 men, 4x Grav Cannon, sergeant with combi-Grav, Drop Pod
Devastator Centurion: 10 men, 4x Grav Cannon, sergeant with combi-Grav, Drop Pod
CAD:

Tigurius

Scout Squad: CCW and Bolt Pistols
Tactical Squad: Meltagun, Drop Pod

Drop Pod
Stormtalon: Skyhammer Launcher
Stormtalon: Skyhammer Launcher

Centurions: 3x Grav Cannon, 3x Missile Launcher, Sergeant with Omniscope
Thunderfire Cannon: 3x Thunderfire Cannons

List 3 accepts that the Assault Squads, even with the perks provided by the Skyhammer, are still a mediocre Melee unit and probably won't live up to the investment, and thus the cool toys for them will stay in the case. The assault marines will dejectedly drop near an objective and hope they get forgotten about, while the rest of the marines get to kill things.

List three takes the Stormtalons from list one and the Thunderfirea from list two while dropping the excess points on the assault marines and the servo skull inquisitor, since the drop pods have more wiggle room to drop without the need to get into cuddling range for an assault. If I need to hold back the centurions and Skyhammer until turn 2, I can instead drop the tactical marines on turn one to try to burn a tank or land on an objective. There is a lot more firepower in this list, at the sacrifice of any kind of assault capability.

What are your guys thoughts? List 2 and 3 will require me to buy more Thunderfire cannons and drop pods, but that's no exactly a bad thing in this new edition. My only real worry is void shields - but a delayed turn two drop should allow the skyhammers or thunderfires to hurt them enough to drop the shield, or I hope I can fit their marines within that 24" bubble and ignore the shield altogether.

I'm kind of leaning to list three, at the moment, but any tweaks and changes for the better would be appreciated.

Is there a permanent stickied thread for Chaos players to complain every time someone/anyone gets models or rules besides them? If not, there should be.
