Haha, OK, so I can't change TOO much based on feedback, BUT I can flex various things. Certain fluffy things will stay as they're built, like 'em or not. Others, I can tweak as much as you like. CCS and PCS not remotely built yet, Infantry not fully assembled, Scions conversions all built, Vets all built (from godsdamned fugly Catachans but, hey, they're built).

My tanks and APCs are non-GeeDub and will share a common hull design. I can build any combo of 8 x Chimeras and Russes (or any other tank you might suggest) when assembling this. I wanted to capture a fast, fully mounted/mechanised Guard army with mobile support, so at the moment 5 are Chimeras, 3 are Russes... or maybe 2 Russes, 1 Hydra. What do you think, given the '8 hulls' restriction?

Heavy Support is where I can play around most - I can build a Hydra turret, various LR builds, a Hellhound, etc. Wondering what will complement but give me enough anti-air and killpower. Thoughts?

your list looks like a fun very mobile detachment consisting of 5 mounted squads, 3 Russes, some cavalry, and a vendetta. Here are some suggested tweaks:


1.) Vendettas Can No Longer Hold Vet Squads
Note that the 2014 IG Codex dropped the vendetta's carrying capacity down to 6. This means your vets cannot fit in this flyer. Consider changing the vets' 2 meltaguns to a lascannon for some ranged anti-tank firepower or change the vendetta out for a valkyrie, or give this squad the stormtrooper chimera.

2.) Your Stormies Don't Need a Chimera
Change the scion squad to a vet squad with carapace armor. This frees up a slot for a 3rd plasma gun. With stormtroopers, you're really paying for the ability to deep-strike them and it doesn't look like this squad will be deep-striking since it has a chimera. This change frees up 11 flamers worth of points! Alternately, keep the stormies and just deep-strike the squad and drop the chimera, or give it to another squad, or change it to a wyvern.

3.) Get Some More Anti-Tank Firepower
You lack ranged anti-tank firepower. Aside from your vendetta, you will struggle against mid to high armor targets. Consider upgrading your platoons' 3 autocannons to lascannons.

4.) The Psyker Doesn't Synergize
Note that psykers in chimeras can only cast witchfire-type abilities. This isn't bad, but it does mean you won't be able to get off the all-important prescience buff unless you get out of the tank and your infantry really don't want to be getting out of their tanks. Consider dropping the psyker.

5.) Consider Veterans Over Platoons
Note that when your infantry count is as low as yours (50-ish troopers), you'd probably be better off upgrading all your platoon squads to vet squads. Platoons work great in larger quantities, but vets work better in a small model count list such as yours.

Hadn't realised the Scions Deep Strike thing... The extra tank hull freed up means I can run 3 Russes and a Wyvern, weeeee!!! Or as you say give it to the Vets and keep the Vendetta as a lascannonfest.

I had a play, based on feedback. It's reduced how much I have to buy and paint, which is nice, and is bang on 1850 if hq-builder.com is to be believed...

I tried to trim enough for another Rough Rider per squad, but couldn't, so I frittered a few points here and there.
Thirs Veterans Squad is not Grenadiers because they're largely converted Catachans. I can paint Flak armour as plate metal to look like Carapace, but a bare chest is a bare chest...
