Subject: Playing casual, unbound or normal?

I haven't played unbound yet, in either a casual or competitive format.
From what I understand it lets me take any unit, in any slot, however I wish. Such as if I wanted to take nothing but 6 hive tyrants and 3 tervigons. Or just ork warbosses and grazghkull
Now do people play unbound when playing casual or do they only do it in tournaments? Because I can see friendships ending over powergamers and fun havers when one side pulls out 3 riptides and broadsides, and the other guy has zzap guns and wierdboyz and the third guy has genestealers and tervigons with dark eldar allies

Not a lot of people (that speak up here on Dakka or that I have encountered) play Unbound. It's the 'do whatever' mode for 40k. It isn't a complicated concept. If you feel like doing whatever, then give it a shot. Your opponents can walk away at any time. It's not 'meant' for one time or another but most players (again the people I've met and here on Dakka) have a knee jerk reaction that Unbound=Bad even in casual games and most tournaments simply don't allow it.
If you're really curious about how Unbound can skew one way or another, look at Miniwargaming with that annoying Chaos guy I can't bother to remember the name of. Then go look at the Tyranid Army List that Xeno Vids uses in their little League games. Miniwargaming just does whatever with no troops, some stupid shenanigans with Defilers or other 'well I don't want to pay the tax' choices, and Xeno Vids has four Heavy Support slots in an otherwise normal list.
Now, neither is 'more right' than the other, but I know I would rather play the Tyranid list than any of the Chaos list vomit that Miniwargaming puts on the table.

we play unbuond....
I myself have done it where i wanted 1 more elite than i had and couldn't take a whole other CAD.
Or some fluffly nonsense. As long as you arent going unbound to be a power gamer no one will care.
Also losing objective secured can really make it a pain.

Bear in mind that you don't get to ignore unit size restrictions or the Allies Matrix. You can field those "genestealers and tervigons with dark eldar allies", but they'll need to start 12" away from each other as usual.

When both you and your opponent agreed to. I wouldn't mind playing unbound because it doens't really create really OP stuff in casual game in my opinion, but some other may have a different point of view. Always agree first with your opponent.
And btw, Unbound can be VERY fun, especially when trying to play more narrative oriented game, and with some booze in yourself!
