So after being out for a few years now i've decided to get back into 40k because i finally have a shop nearby again and i can actually afford it haha.

So the armies i'm interested in are Eldar, Imperial Guard (or whatever they're called now) and Necrons.
I've always liked the looks and feel of all of these armies but i just wanna know how they are doing now days because i've heard 7th has changed the game alot.

Well two of the armies listed are pretty baf Armies. And the other is... Average

Imperial guardsmen are on the short end of the stick in this contest of three choices. They aren't a terrible army but their book has grown long in the tooth, their tank parks are much more manageable, their infantry range from decent to underwhelming. Really their biggest strengths now are their air power, artillery batteries, and their super heavy staple the bane blade chassis tanks. It's not that they can't win matches it's just that there is obvious crutches the army now stands on.

The eldar are naturally masters of the Gorgonzola. They have reached new heights and done some really questionable things in the latest book and as a result some people even refuse to play them things have gotten so out of hand (myself included). The eldar really needed a toning down this codex and they basically swung so hard towards buffs people's screens cracked reading reviews on their smartphones. Some armies just outright can't even stand a hope in winning against the eldar book unless it was a really silly army like nothing but rangers or some nonsense like that. And some matches wouldn't even make it turn turn 5 guaranteed.

The necrons are an army that went to being okay to being exceptionally competitive without being unmanageable for some enemies. They are very much acting on the table the way you think necrons would. Being too stubborn to die during various turn phases and slowly grinding you down through attrition. They are not a fast moving army but they don't need to be the speed of necron is good enough for them. They are a very good army that can be intimidating for people who have no experience fighting necrons. And they can be really infuriating to veterans anyway because their resilience is so ridiculous. But their not a bad army allowing room for both the competitive player and the goofy theme player to coexist. In my opinion they are one of the most wholesome of the 7th edition codecies.

If you want to win without really trying, Eldar and Necrons have what you're looking for.

necrons aren't that bad unless they want to be, with eldar their really isn't much way around it without really gimping your army.
