I am currently painting Gracie for my Gremlins in Malifaux.
So she is getting painted in Vallejo heavy fleshtone with highlights being a mixture of the heavy fleshtone and flat flesh, working up to flat flesh. I will then use a lighter flesh to highlight some extreme points like the ears and snout. One problem is the transition between colours is quite stark (something I am trying to work on more and more) so I have taken to applying a controlled wash/glaze at the end. Normally I would just use a GW wash like Reikland Fleshshade but that is a bit darker than I want it to be. So I plan to make my own wash.
I understand the basics of making a wash/glaze (1 part paint to 10-12 parts medium/water/flow aid mix). What I am uncertain of is what stage of colour do I use as the wash/glaze. Do I use the darkest tone, some sort of mid-tone or the lightest tone?
