Hi guys just wondering if anyone knows of a rule set that focuses on wars such as the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Sioux_War_of_1876 and other conflicts like it in that time period between the US army and the Native Americans.
Edit: Also does anyone know of any lines for US Calvary and various native american tribes.

Do you know of a cheap way to get those rule books?

Basically, just watch ebay. They come up for a good price every once in a while.
You can still get new copies of Blood on the Plains from On Military Matters for $35.

I own another set of Western-themed skirmish rules, which look fun enough although I have not played yet.

Great question! I have always wanted to game the Dakota War of 1862 as well.
I am also interested in the responses.

Been a while since I gamed this stuff, but I still have
"Yellow Ribbon" (still available from RAFM: http://www.rafm.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=RAF00020&Category_Code=RHG ) and the expansion "And Continually Wear The Blue" which gave some good reference material and scenarios. http://www.nobleknight.com/ProductDetail.asp_Q_ProductID_E_2147359709_A_InventoryID_E_0_A_ProductLineID_E_2137418806_A_ManufacturerID_E_263_A_CategoryID_E_17_A_GenreID_E_
I also have "Pony Wars or 'B' Troop aint coming back" which I never played but basically is interesting as the 'game' runs the Sioux.

Pet Panzeri (a great guy) wrote Plains Wars: http://oldglory25s.com/view_product.php?product=RUL-67
And Peter Pig have "Hey you in the Jail" which has plains indians and cavalry.
I vaguely remember some 19th century rule set that had Army and Indian forces, and think there is a large unit colonial rule set that also had rules for this.
There is also this variant for The Sword and the Flame: http://www.angelfire.com/games3/jacksongamer/tomahawk.htm
When I was at Ft Huachuca I did a lot of reading about the Apache wars and visited some of the sites where some of the actions occurred. Fascinating stuff.

Thanks for the info, Captain. Can you give a quick (or long if you like) review of Yellow Ribbon?

Sorry for the delayed reply.
I like the rules. They are an older set (1988-89) and clearly published before the days of fancy word processors.
They have a lot of period flavor. Army units (which include cavalry, infantry, supply trains, civilians, scouts, arty) face off agains Indians. Indians come in 'controlled' and 'uncontrolled' flavors. The phases of a turn are:
Command phase: Activate leaders, issue orders to units under command (different orders are available for Army, Controlled and Uncontrolled Indians) and roll for units not under command.
Movement Phase
Fire Phase
Morale Medicine Phase
Close Combat
Medicine Phase for Uncontrolled Indians
Indians have a 'Medicine' level. It goes down as they take casualties and if they fail their medicine roll they will withdraw. Uncontrolled Indians gain 'Glory Points' for certain things like killing those nasty troopers or stealing their mules/wagons. If their Glory is higher than current Medicine they will withdraw.
There are rules for settlers and Indian 'civilians', arty and gatling guns, battle field communications and so on. Scale is kind of sliding depending on the time period/forces involved and can be one figure to one combatant , 1:2 or 1:5. Each unit (Indian Band/Army Company) gets an index card sized roster you have to make to track ammo and morale and such. Army units can send out detachments. You'll need mounted and dismounted figures for appropriate units.
Rules are not complex, but have some neat mechanisms.
