Not usually one to care about this stuff, but the first song that popped into my mind was the 28 days later theme song. I always have flashes of rage zombies when this is played.
This is pretty softly sung so you'll need to turn up the volume a bit more than you think necessary.
The song tells the story of a gunner in a WWII bomber who's plane is shot down and as he free falls down to the ground, he dreams of a world will be at peace where there is no censorship so you can speak out loud about what you are thinking, the youth of the nation won't be sent of to die for their country, and men wont have to sleep in the trenches. It also refers to the IRA terrorist attacks.
There are two songs I immediately think of when asked to think of songs that emotionally move me. The first one is, of course, from The King:
The second is from Willie Nelson (although Elvis also did it well, I actually think Willie's version has more of that pain in it), and definitely will move anyone with a significant other. I have to go hug my wife every time I hear this song:
"Through the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see.
One chants out between two worlds: Fire, walk with me." - Twin Peaks
"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

Bah, too depressing, try this:
Head like a hole: NIN
I like how you tried to lighten the mood with Head like a Hole. I like the way you think.
Here's a stone cold metal classic. Five of the genre's best in one seriously bad ass band.
If metal's not your thing how about the greatest American songwriter of all time with his piano, just months before he really fell off the deep end of mental illness and addiction?
What about a little computer generated ecstasy? Israel's EDM genius
Here's a beautiful song of love and loss, from three steam powered automatons. If anyone knows anything about love and loss, it's steam powered automatons.
We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
"Because we couldn't be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We've all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we've all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher's Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to the heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn't behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
- Eighth Captain Khârn
Alternatively, for the fellow pilots in the thread:
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Wow, may have to compare notes in music.
Started off liking Metal.
Then electronic.
Evolved into Industrial.
Been dabbling in Steam-Punk and Dub-step as my latest fad.
Saw Steam Powered Giraffe in concert and person, really talented folks.
Abney Park may help with this thread:
Music affects mood to easy so I try to keep it happy with a touch of angry.
A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.
Napoleon Bonaparte
Abney park is great, they have a very unique sound. And I love the Captain's voice. Most male singers tend to aim for higher pitches, but he keeps his very gravely. And they really embraced their uniqueness with their latest albums. The more I hear of that fiddle, the better.
Automatically Appended Next Post: On the other hand, his emotional stuff is great as well

Despite Metallicas post/pre 1990 stuff, this is imho, is the best song they ever crafted.
Crafted is the key word , its literally built from a single riff up. Lars 4/4, 5/4s, combined with the relentless picked riffs just drive it along.
Along with the ad fills early its a builder.
But at 3.55 that nasty over drive pedal kicks in and the double kick mashes you around 4.20.
from 4.40 - anyone who isnt head banging, is....
And after all that.....Hammet shreds the entire closing.
A magical piece of music genius.
