When you get sky of falling stars for c'tan how does the assault 3 work?
The stats are assault 3 large blast barrage
Do you roll 3 sets of scatter dice or get 3 hits on everything under the one blast marker?

Neither. It is a multiple barage.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Check out the Barrage rules in the Special Rules section at the end of the rulebook for resolving a Multiple Barrage (page 160).
Basically, you place the first marker, scatter it, and then the other two shots (i.e. blast markers) so that they are touching the first.

More to answer your question: barrage is a ranged rule, not a ranged type.
Most barrage are either heavy or, more likely, ordnance.
Barrage could even be salvo or rapid fire(or in the most extreme case of weird weapon: pistol); I don't think there is a single case of any of these but they could potentially exist at some point in the future.
Anyways, barrage, blast, torrent, sniper, poisoned, pinning, and precision shot are all special rules.

Thanks again although an assault barrage weapon wouldnt ordinarily make sense your logic does and combining the assault weapons and barrage weapons rules confirms this. That shot won me the game BTW killing 3 terminators softening up the 10 man squad enough for me to charge with lychguard!
