I want to build a Primus redoubt but I'm a bit confused where to start. Anyone have good ideas of measurements and materials?

Well, the base is 2 feet by 2 feet. That could be made out of Hardboard/mdf. The bunker could be made out of pink foam or cardboard. The cannon looks like it could come from a Titan kit, maybe.

I wouldn't go for a like for like reproduction, rather just making something which in broad terms fits the description of that terrain piece would be easier. ...Because if the guys you're playing against are going to argue about such semantics then they wouldn't allow you to use a scratch built terrain piece to start with.

I'd find a 2x2 foot piece of wood, build up the land then cover it with clay or whatever for texture (there were a few threads over here handling that subject - check out the Future Wars board as well, there's plenty of terrain threads there with similar subjects as this). For the actual position I'd use a basis of foam and balsa wood covered with clay again. Plenty of companies sell the little technical doodads such as Pardulon, Ainsty, and Hasslefree for making the surfaces look a bit more complex, though vehicle parts would do. Overall it doesn't look too complex, just lots of angles and raised details you could achieve with balsa. For the laser there's plenty of cheap sci-fi toys you could nab one off of. Hell a toy gun would probably do.

Work out the Really Big Gun and its mounting first, as everything else has to fit around it.

I agree that you shouldn't get too obsessed with mimicking the original exactly. In gaming terms, so long as it provides cover for around the same number of models and in roughly the same places, then it's close enough.
