I just got back into 40k and my friends invited me to come play and they are really competitive. I was looking through the new codex and I am having a hard time thinking of an all around good list for 1500. There is the possibility of playing against tau, grey knights, Nids, and chaos. Any suggestions or lists you can think of that are all around good

The most competitive build we get is the champions of fenris supplement.
I would use that, requires 1 HQ and 2 ELITES, has great relics, warlord traits and it gives +1WS to wolf guard and thunderwolves.

Take a battle leader with thunderwolf, runic armour, storm shield, krakenbone sword (relic) and felclaws teeth (relic)

Take two squads of thunderwolves 3-4 each, all with storm shields and one in each squad with Power fist or thunder hammer

For the elite slots take wolf guard with combi-weapons in pods, iron priests with cyber wolves or dreads with axe shield in pods

For heavy support longfangs with lascannons are fine for siting in ruins and providing long range fire support

If you dont use the supplement

take the thunderwolf battle leader with stormshield, armour of russ, helrm of durnfast and black death

2 to 3 units of 10 man Greyhunters in pods with either dual plasma or dual melta and wolfguard with the same combi as the special weapons of the squad.

a unit of wolf guard with combi weapons in a pod or a dread with axe and shield

long fangs for heavy support.

Runepriest ML2 with divination or biomancy for secondary HQ

If you play maelstorm use a CAD instead of a Wolves unleashed detach for the objective secure Greyhunters

If you play the wolves unleashed detach bring on at least one stormwolf with twin linked multimelta

These are the most aggressive choices we got.

The list i am going to play test for a local tourney is the following and its from the supplement
just to give you an idea

Company Of The Great Wolf Detachment

HQ

206 WolfGuard Battle Leader (Krakenbone Sword,FellclawsTeeth,Thunderwolf,Runic Armour,Storm Shield,2xFenrisian wolves) (WARLORD)

ELITES

231 7xWolfGuard (7xCOMBI_PLASMA,DROP POD)

231 7xWolfGuard (7xCOMBI_MELTA,DROP POD)

FAST ATTACK

245 4xThunderwolf Cavalry (3xStorm Shields,1xStorm Shield/Power Fist)

250 4xThunderwolf Cavalry (3xStorm Shields,1xStorm Shield/Thunder Hammer)

35 DROP POD (empty)

HEAVY SUPPORT

150 5xLong Fangs (3xLasCannons,1xMissile Launcher)

150 5xLong Fangs (3xLasCannons,1xMissile Launcher)

TACTIC

Battle leader joins one squad of thunderwolves (the thunderhammer one for Monster creature hunting) and along with the other thunderwolf squad rush forward. The 2 wolfguard drop pods deal with those enemy units that oppose the biggest
threat to my thunderwolves (DreadKnights, Centurions, Leman Russ with Pask etc) either destroying them or cripple them. Long fangs provide long range fire support while hiding in cover and capturing base objectives. The empty pod is for 2 pods arriving in first turn and for late game objective capturing - denying.

With this list ill ignore enemy fliers and i ll try to gain board control from first turn capturing objectives. In 1500 points there wont be many fliers and if they are, There wont be many enemy
units on the board to capture objectives or deal with my T-wolves.

Also with this list If my opponet plays 2 or more flyrants he will think twice to deploy them as jump infantry first turn with all that melta, plasma alpha striniking

That is a good list indeed.

But i must add that i you don't like Thunderwolf Cavalry (like me), the Space Wolves codex is not that good compared to the new Space Marine codex.
Space Wolves terminators are just too expensive, dreadnoughts lack the 4 attacks that generaic dreadnoughts now do have. And the advantages the Chamions of Fenris supplement gives you (which is indeed better then the regular codex) are not enough.
The current meta of Knights, D-weapons, grav-weapons makes playing an elite army without these difficult.

In short: if you do not have Thunderwolf cavalry, the Space Wolves are fun but not that competitive.
I will play them with the Space Marine codex next time.
Saves me about 10 points per terminator, i get extra attacks on my dreadnoughts and can choose army wide rules for free while still fielding my favourite Space Marine models.
