Mostly, on my phone.

So I'm trying to work out if there's practical alternatives to running a Falcon that's not Fat Han.
I'm very keen on Lando, and was thinking him with Z95 might work nicely but the Falcon felt flimsy and I took a serious beating.
I also tried out a Wookie Rage list (Chewbacca and Gunner, Jan Ors, Bwing with mangler and crew Kyle) - that seemed a bit more robust.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Oh, and I have YYXXXZBBAAE (with Aces) and a HWK, so I can lay out a few tricks

Cheers,
Graven

The main problem with the "skinny" Falcon is that even the cheapest options are still half your points. It's still almost always going to be the defining element of your list, so why not add the upgrades to make the focus of your list work properly? IMO neglecting the upgrades is like taking Soontir Fel but then leaving off PTL and autothrusters to save a few points.

Oh, I understand that, it's more if there's a viable alternative to fat han.

Minneapolis, MN

Peregrine is basically right. The points you spend on upgrading the Falcon are almost always more efficient than points you spend upgrading smaller, less capable ships (or points spent on an extra z-95).

The YT-2300 is a better choice for a low-fat turret ship. A Wild Space Fringer with an outrider HLC is the same price as a stock Chewbacca.

Ok, so, with that in mind, is there a viable Fat-Falcon that's not Han?

Fat Chewie is decent. You trade PS 9+ (very useful if you have a Whisper-heavy metagame) and a decent offensive pilot ability for crit immunity and 4 points to spend elsewhere. I think Han still wins if you want the most competitive option, but ignoring crits is a very powerful advantage on a ship with lots of hull HP. And if you can do something awesome with the 4 points you save then maybe it's worth taking a slightly weaker Falcon.

Well Chewie, Gunner, Cluster, Falcon, engine upgrade worked pretty well for me. I wonder about switching Jan for a mercenary copilot to make it more of a gun boat, although Jan supporting a B was tasty. Then there's the matter of elite talent thanks for all the support here! If only lando were less rubbish

My standard Chewie setup, from before I decided that turret ships are too boring to fly: predator + gunner (or Luke if you have points) + C-3P0 + title card. Engine upgrade is optional if you have points, but at PS 5 it's a lot less effective than it is on Han. And I'd definitely trade the cluster missiles for something more useful, it's a one-shot weapon on a ship that is going to spend most of its time with its primary arc pointed away from its target.

My go to chewe has been , PTL, Recon specialist, jan Ors, title, allows for 2 evade, on a ship that does not take crits, and is annouying as all get out to kill.
