1 Techmarine
0-3 Thunderfire canons
Either 3 whilrwinds, predators and etc.

The question is this. The Canon comes with a free in points Techmarine. Can I canon and 3 predators and declear that I use this formation or I have to deploy one additional Techmarine that fields separately from the techmarine attached to the Thunderfire canon?

Please note that Im kinda of a new player and I apologise if this is a stupid question, but I'ts a bit unclear to me.

The Techmarine that comes with the TF Cannon is a "Techmarine Gunner" not a "Techmarine", so he cannot fulfil the "1 Techmarine" requirement of the formation.

The Thunderfire Cannon comes with a Techmarine Gunner, not a Techmarine.

Thanks for the info. Somehow I remained with the impression that it's a stand alone techmarine. Thanks anyway. The formation is still good thou, but I dont know if it's suitable for small scale games ~850 points.

Actually it could be an absolutely brutal list at 850.

TFC's, Predators with Chronus Warlord, Vindicators. Space Marine Armored company. I made I think a 2K list a while back just fiddling with Army Builder when this first came out and had this formation loaded out to I think 1200ish points. If you trim to 850, I don't know that it would lose anything.

My version was 1280, with the Techmarine, some servitors, 3 TFC's 6 Predators, and 3 Whirlwinds. I also had the Land Raider Spearhead formation, and the anti-air formation. All told I think I had one infantry unit in the Techmarine + servitors, the rest were artillery or tanks.

Yeah, i'ts brutal. My point was it's more suitable for a 3K plus game where you really do the overkill. But I will try to Insert this into a 850.

It also has massive drawbacks, draw the wrong mission and you're hosed.

I'm also rather fond of lists that prey on the presumption that a (Faction) list will look like X, therefore they spam Y.
