Ok so this one is going to be a tricky one. Q will be messing with a ship, cutting primary weapon values and defense dice in half. So to me it looks like there could be a few ways to play this one. Q goes on the ship with the highest hull value or if all your ships have the same hull he goes on the most expensive. Hmmmm....

Option 1) Secondary weapons, but that could be a problem against cloaked ships and action taxing.
Maybe something like my Romulan build
(http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/650568.page)

Option 2) Swarms, lots of ships of equal hull hopefully Q won't matter so much. You might have to sacrifice captain skill but Q won't be so much of a problem
I like the idea of 4 Klingon K'Vorts and the B'Moth. 5 ships that are difficult to one shot if shields are up. Q's ship can rack up tokens on the moon and you still have 4 ships that have 4 attacks each, not bad.

Option 3) A dummy ship to babysit Q.
Maybe a modification of the fighter swarm. 2 Constitutions, 3 fighters, and an Olympic Class. With 5 hull and 2 shields the Olympic is good at babysitting Q. I don't like the idea of playing 3 fighters ( ) but it's a possibility.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
An alternative to the dummy ship could be

30 Voyager
06 Picard

24 Nebula class
04 Spock
05 Dorsal Phaser Array

24 Nebula
02 Data ( Shakorov)
05 Dorsal Phaser Array

20 Olimpic Class

120

Three ships with 4 die 360 attacks and they each get double actions, well Data does for 3 turns.

What are the thoughts of the other dakka trekkers

For me Q rode on the Enterprise-E with starter set Picard in command as my Federation Fleet Captain. Sovereign-class photon torpedoes were going off every round.

That's a good idea. The E doesn't need a TL and with Picard it can fire every turn with BS.

Crippled at least one ship with a single torpedo spread.

That is cool

I thought up this last night. Not super competitive but looks fun.

05 High Yields Photons

32 USS Enterprise E
06 Picard
05 Cheat Death
06 Photons

22 USS Enterprise
06 Kirk
03 Cheat Death
02 Systems Upgrade
02 Type 8 Phasers
03 Riker (Hood)
04 Paris
04 Jennifer Sisko ( cloaked mine insurance)

20 fed fighters

With 3 evade dice and Cheat Death Kirk has some survivability. Jennifer Sisko can give some time to get to the middle before people start dropping mines. As PicardX pointed out above the E can be a big chariot for Q, Cheat Death. With High Yields the E can throw out 7 dice with BS and a single reroll. It doesn't have any defense but hopefully its high hull and shields will keep it around. Plus people can't ignore the fighters. Fighters do what fighters do.

I managed to win last week with this build, its basically a Fed Swarm:

Prometheus-Class
-Dorsal Phaser Array

USS Enterprise-D
-Rudolph Ransom

NX-Class

x2 Federation Attack Fighters (squadrons)

I dreamt it up in the ten minutes it took me to drive to the tournament. It worked rather well, as Q went to my Enterprise, and I had that ship and the NX basically just pulling tokens off while my fighters and the Prometheus Class dealt with my opponent.

I also encountered a player running the Bemoth with Worf and x4 Assimilated Berels. A lot of merit there, especially against the standard builds.

"I find your lack of faith, disturbing."
"There's too many of them..." *static*

What do you guys think about dropping the Sovereign Torpedoes on the list above and taking the Dominion torpedoes from the Gor Portas? It would loose the extra die but the Dominion torpedoes can be used at range 1-3. So with the High Yield resource that is still 6 dice, one reroll, and Picard's BS at any range. I think that is a good trade for one attack. What say y'all?

If you go with the Gor Portas Photons, you lose one attack die for the chance to shoot at range 1. Using the High Yield Photons resource, that's 6 attack dice at range 1-3 that doesn't require a target lock. They both cost the same amount of points.

However, the Sovereign at range 1 will be throwing 6 dice with it's Primary Weapon, and I think I'd somehow squeeze in Dorsal Weapons if I was really scared about attacks outside of my arc. BUT Q will probably be on this ship, so Primary Attack value is halved.

When I played this OP, the 7 attack dice from the Ent-E (High Yield, + Sovereign Torps) was more than enough in the opening turns to take out my opponent's biggest threat. My fighters and Voyager cleaned up at range 1-2. I can see the attractiveness of the Gor Portas Torps, but think the Sovereign Torps on the E are better. It wasn't hard to keep the Ent-E at range 1-2 while my other ships did the knife fight thing at Range 1 (where Fighters excel).

My Enterprise-E had Picard, and two Sovereign Torps. Using Picard, I had a TL and BS token for two turns of shooting the torps, then I cycled enabling one torp and using TL's. Aux tokens? 1 green forward while the rest of my fleet closed with the enemy.

I had one mirror match, but he messed up and got his Ent-E too close.

So I had my first crack at Q2 today. Last night I was really thinking I need a killer list. I thought this up.

32 D'Deridex (Rom/Borg)
04 Gul Mecet
05 Magnometric Guided Charges
02 Interphase Generator*

32 D'Deridex (Rom/Borg)
04 Donatra
01 Admiral Hiren
05 Magnometric Guided Charges
02 Interphase Generator*

12 Romulan Science Vessel
04 Valdor
05 Independant Fleet Captain (tech*)
01 Picard Maneuver*
02 Cloaked Mines
02 Cloaked Mines
02 Cloaked Mines
02 Cloaked MInes
03 Quark (Distruptor Beams)

120 Total

The idea was to use Picard Maneuver first turn to get the Science vessel up to the moon. Turn 2 drop 4 mines around the moon to keep the opponent from getting too close. Then move in with Mecet and Donatra throwing around shots that don't allow evade dice. Mecet can also get his charges up to 5 dice. So between the mines and mag charges I figure that a ship should get torn up very fast. Valdor had disruptor Beams to finish somthing off if need be.

So a good plan and very vicious. However in the morning I had a different feeling. The list just didn't seem very fun, and certainly not fun for my opponent. I also thought about the venue I was going to. Though not official, we have been moveing more towards faction pure there. So I decided to scrap it and go with something more conventional.

This is what I came up with.

20 Fed Fighters (resource)

32 USS Enterprise E
06 Picard
05 Cheat Death
06 Photon Torpedoes (Sov Torpes)

24 USS Defiant
04 Sisko
05 Cheat Death
03 Riker (Hood)
04 Paris
02 Systems Upgrade
02 Type 8 Phasers
05 Multi Adaptive Shields

118 Total

I wanted to just see what I could do with the Defiant and some new toys and have fun.

As is turned out one of our regulars couldn't make it so we were down to 3.

Opponent Round 1 flew

Sovereign Class
04 Ben Maxwell
05 Dorsal Phaser

Sovereign Class
04 Sisko
05 Dorsal Phaser

Sovereign Class
04 Spock
05 Dorsal Phaser

I went straight at him, he went slow because he was trying to get rid of Q. I was taking shots at the planet whenever i could and got 11 tokens he only got 4. I destroyed all 3 ships and got my Enterprise E. A win with 205

Round 2 was a nasty fleet

Voyager
Desoto
Riker
Paris
Sulu
Multi Adaptive Shields

NX-01
Ransom
Data
Enhanced Hull Plating

Enterprise D
Picard (Stargazer)
Picard Maneuver
Fleet Captain (crew)
Ilia
Worf
Scotty (refit)
Plox
Janice Rand

This was a tought game. I couldn't make a dent in Voyager. I got the NX down to 1 hull and the D down to 2 hull and 1 shield. I did manage to get all 12 tokens. He didn't focus on the planet very much and I only lost the E. With the bonus points I only lost by 9 points. 79-70.

Round 3 was a by so 60 points.

At the end of the day we each had a Win, a Lose, and a Bye. So when it came down to points I won over all with 335 points . It was fun to see everyone play Feds and faction pure. It was one of the most fun OPs I have been to.
