So after one particularly disastrous game, I've discovered that roughly half the dice I have with special symbols have the mark on the 6, and the other half on the 1. Which got me thinking - the 1 seems logical because it's replacing a single dot with a single symbol, on the other hand 6's are often super-relevant (hey rending...) and I can see wanting to associate whatever symbol with "Awesome!"

So I was curious - do you have a preference, and if so, for which?

I would never want a potato symbol on my 6s

Personal preference however IS on the 6s.

I want my ones to be swear words and my 6's to be the star of chaos.

I prefer the 1's get replaced, it seems almost backwards in my head to replace the 6's. Though I once played a game using my dice, where a guy tried to give me the ones I rolled as 6's, thinking that was where the icon was, despite me only rolling one set of dice, and there being a six next to a one

To be fair i dont think i want to associated my army/chapter/special symbol to be associated with failure (for most game systems iirc)

Depends on the image. I generally expect the six.

I prefer the 6's, because nine times out of ten rolling a six is a good thing.

I vastly prefer the symbol to replace the six. I want rolling "Dakka Dakka!" or my unit/chapter/whatever insignia to be a good thing.

I want the symbol on the 'good' result

so for warhammer it's the 6, but for other stuff it's the 1

(and as long as they are genuinely special dice that don't get used for something else that's ok, just don't use them as 'normal' d6s as that way leads to disaster)

Put it on the 1 if it's going to be divett (sp?) style to balance out the divetts (sp?)on the 6 on the other side.

And it should read "Doh!", because that's what I say when a terminator dies to lasgun fire.

On the 1s for a single symbol (skull?), and the 6s for logos or words.

Rolling a table-full of "DakkaDakka" makes anyone's day.
