I have magnetised my minatures. I'm was wondering what the best source of steel was for adding to movement trays/carry cases. I was looking for something easily workable and cheap. Can you get steel foil anywhere and if so where (I am in Australia)? Are there cheap sources of iron?

I've been trying to figure that out myself. I've cut up guitar string, braided wire, snapped chunks off of exacto-knife blades and stuck tack nails and screw heads in places they would fit, but I've never seen anything that I could really work with and shape.

Idk about Australia but in the land of the free most hardware stores sell smaller pieces of sheet metal, something like 12" by 24" or so. I would suggest going through the phone book and looking up mate fabricators. Most of the ones here will make straight cuts for a dollar each. Get 18 or 20 gauge.
Edit: phone plus hands

Okay, I've not researched prices on this, so it may not be the most cost effective item, but... Cookie sheets. Run about $20 US new, or scout a yard sale and pick up one for pocket change.

I have gotten them from Bunnings before, they were tricky to find though and they didn't have a great range.
Near my work there's also a steel supplier and they'll just cut you a sheet of what you need, though I imagine some of the bigger suppliers would just find you an annoyance, this place is a smaller place that is basically a middle man and buys steel from the big suppliers and resells it to smaller folks who don't need giant slabs of steel.

... Am I too crazy to suggest sheet metal? Was that too obvious?

I bought 1mm sheet steel from Amazon or ebay. Sold for welding cars.
Cutting it neatly is a problem. There is a huge guillotine at work that I can use.
Spray some primer on it. Stops it from corroding. Also roughens it a bit so magnetised minis don't slide around.

In Oz, I would expect that Bunnings, Masters or Mitre 10 would sell sheet steel or galvabond. If in doubt, just bail up a staff member and ask.
As an alternative, you can also buy magnetic paint (sometimes sold as magnetic chalkboard paint) - no idea who has it in Oz, you might need to search a little, but would be easier than messing about with cutting sheet steel.
